Super Metroid

  • Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Nintendo WiiU
  • 1994
  • Action-Adventure
  • Nintendo R&D1

'Super Metroid' is a game commonly mentioned among all-time classics. Rightfully so I might add, it is a monumental title and very influential in it's genre. The atmosphere created in the game is unprecedented, level-design superb; you'll feel very lost in it's world, trying to find a way out.

In the game, Samus tracks down the captain of the Space Pirates known as Ridley who stole the last of the Metroids and wants to use it to harness it's power. Gameplay centers around exploration and finding weapons and items to proceed ever closer to finding Ridley only to find out he wasn't the one pulling the strings. The game has too many secrets to count, and finally reaching the exhilarating endgame is a great moment. Only to find out you found just 67% of all the secrets.

I had played this game on the Super Nintendo way back when, but because I never owned one myself during it's prime, the game passed out of knowledge for quite a long time. Only to be rediscovered when it was re-released on the WiiU's virtual console. This made me remember that, yes, this game was amazing.

I'm now paying closer attention to your list. Anything you list after this game is going to be something I seriously look into getting.

Oh I think I've seen it. *one google search later* Thumper?

Is this cheating?

Not a Playstation game.

And maybe it is cheating, I wasnt sure

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Heh. Super Metroid should objectively maybe be higher, but the "fun" factor is a big part of my list. Combined with a certain personal meaning and lastly a bit of quality is also obviously necessary. Obviously it's also fun, but Super Metroid is mostly here for it's quality.

Hint for game #38: A pirate and his moneky!

38 - The Secret of Monkey Island

No. I thought for a moment there was no monkey in Monkey Island (at least not one Guybrush had), but there was the Monkey wrench.

But if I ever played Monkey Island, it should be higher on my list, don't you think?

#39 The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past

I feel as if this is the Zelda that laid the groundwork for all future Zelda titles. Sure, the original Zelda was groundbreaking, but this one just streamlined and added so many things to the formula. In the same sense that Morrowwind is great, but Skyrim is better, Zelda is great, but aLttP is better. With eight dungeons, tons of hearts to find, hidden fairies and a solid 10 hour quest, this game holds up better than most games in the series. For a long while after Ocarina of Time, Nintendo just kept making half finished, and rushed Zelda games. This is the last Zelda title on this list before we get to the really heavy hitters. That should give you a good idea of where this stands among it's peers in the franchise (at least how I rank it).

#39 Sonic Mania

So, Sonic mania ahead of A Link to the Past.

Yeah, you bore my brain.

Damnit. I gotta change that.

It's a remake

#39

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy?

And dude, never call Fast Racing Neo a "new F-Zero". It doesn't have 10% of the charm.

Edit: oh, actually I think I know #40. Super Mario 64 DS?

Correct on 40. (64 DS, that is)

39 is not an indie game.

#37 : Great RPG from 2009 which was followed by two bad sequels.

Final Fantasy 13?

Nope, it was developed for PC initially...

edit : I would add that the third game being bad is a way more personal opinion...lol
