Forums - Nintendo - Sonic Forces Switch Version

People don't seem to be in any kind of hurry to review this game... still 0 reviews on Metacritic.

*Edit* Nvm Polygon had one, gave it a 50. I see userscore is beginning to plummet as well.

Game looks vastly inferior to Unleashed/Generations imo, so even at the $40 price I'll still be skipping it.

I do agree it looks pretty good on Switch considering its power and the time frame Sega was given to launch day and date. I might get it once it drops to around 20 bucks, I don't think 40 is fair for 2 hours of playtime.

But I'll bet you bought Odyssey for $60 despite it also being beatable in 2 hours. :L

If you beat that game in two hours then you're either a speed runner or you're doing it wrong lol

There's just a touch of difference between the experience those two games have to offer :p

The control responsiveness issues on the Switch version from the Japanese demo and the earlier E3 demo appear to be fixed. With that being said, the controls and physics for all three of the enemies just seems off. Modern Sonic is way too floaty, Classic Sonic drops like a rock, and the Avatar has really slippery controls. The stages that I have played so far are a bit too short and filled with pointless cinematics and QTEs. There is a lack of enemy variety (so far it is mainly generic Moto bugs, Egg Pawns, and Buzz Bombers). The Modern Sonic stages seem far more simplified compared to Generations and Unleashed. For example, there is no more drifting, thus everything just seems more linear and the trick system has been removed; these levels no longer feel as challenging as, say, Unleashed where you had to quickly dodge obsticles with boost, homing attack, drift and quick step (yes many of these mechanics are still there and you do still have to dodge things, but it is just far easier and much more linear). There are few bosses and the Infinite boss battles are too repetative.

Overall, it is definitely not on par with Mania but it also falls below Unleashed (or at least the Unleashed Generations mod for Sonic Generations which really refined the day stages), Generations, and Colors. It is an okay game and there is definitely fun to be had but the character controls (which, btw, for a 3D Sonic game I would say are worse than that of Generations and Colors; and those games did not really have the perfect controls either) and the level design (too short, too linear) are keeping it from greatness.

I got Sonic Forces 3 days early on the 4th, and put it in my Switch once, played the first 3 stages and was not impressed in the slightest, I have gone straight back to Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2.

It looks okay, nothing special, the gameplay is dull... it is VERY much the same old sonic that we are used to being disappointed by over the last 15 years.

Sega didn't send out review copies because of a day 1 patch.

As for the Odyssey comparison, okay maybe 3-4 hours when strictly going through story beats, but yeah I was just being silly, I mean I also bought Odyssey but wont buy Forces atleast until it's in the bargain bin. Odyssey despite being short is justified at $60 because of how great it is of course, definitely wasn't trying to say otherwise.

Yeah, Odyssey's approach is a bit risky and probably wouldn't work with most games... you have to make the gameplay itself enjoyable enough that people actually want to keep seeking out additional moons and such that aren't necessary to beat the game. I can think of a lot of games that I just dropped entirely the moment I completed them, but much like Mario 64 I feel compelled to try and find more.

Lol, are you crazy? It took me 10-15 hours to get through the main game of Odyssey. 2 hours? Lol, how do you even enjoy Odyssey or see what it has to offer at this point? While Forces takes 2 hours to get through EVERY stage in its entirety. And I've played Odyssey for over 30 hours and still haven't stepped foot on the Dark side or the Darker side and still have 300 moons to go. I'm well satisfied with that purchase bud.

This is bullshit.

Sonic Forces does not take 2 hours to beat. If somebody did it, THEY HAMMERED ( stage to stage to stage, no S ranks, no red rings, no missions, no challenges, no SoS's, no breaks)the game out. How many buyers buy guys to play in that style? I been playing a little bit over an hour and I'm only up to level 7. Game offers tons of replay value. Stop spreading what is purely nonsense.

Lol, I watched multiple livestreams of the game (including ones that broke street date a week ago) it took 2-2.5 hours to get through the main game.

And these aren't even speedruns! They're normal people playing it for the first time. Most stages only last 1 minute to 2:30. And they were getting S ranks up the ass. Missions? Come on. What's bullshit is claiming you can get through the main game of Odyssey in 2 hours. They are 2 totally separate game play styles. To insinutate that they can both take equal amounts of time is bullshit. Sonic's fanbase, man. Did I say it took 2 hours to 100% the game? No, quit putting words in my mouth. I gave proof of how long it takes to get through the main game, and how it compares to Odyssey. Odyssey is a beefier game and the movement style is much different. There's not much you can argue at this point. Quit being sour dude.
