Forums - Gaming - First SONIC FORCES REVIEW *eyeroll*

This game getting pretty meh scores from reviewers is pretty expected, but I mean maybe not this low, but I don't expect a lot of 10's or 9's, but hopefully at lot of 8's and 7's will be pretty ok.

I'm still not 100% sure on whether to get this or not, at least day 1 anyway.

I will never understand what western critics have against 3D Sonic, they seem to hate it. Famitsu gave it a 35/40, yet we have a 5/10 from Polygon and a 4/10 from TSSZ, that's a huge range between the west and the east.

The fault of the Sonic community.

Why is that? I'm curious because I'm not part of that community.

Although Famitsu also gave Lost World a 36/40 and Sonic 06 a 30/40. I mean Lost World is ok but I wouldn't say it's that good, and I don't even need to comment on Sonic 06.

Famitsu seem to be very generous of their review scores all round anyways.

It is a community that is strongly divided in 3. You have the hardcore 2D fans who only like the 2D fans, they praised Mania and hate on everything else. Then you have the Adventured 3D fans, who liked the Adventure games but hate on the more recent "Boost" 3D games and are constantly asking for Adventure 3. Then you have the fans of the modern "boost" games, they think Forces looks good and are looking forward to it. Because the fanbase is so divided, the critics don't know how to score these games without offending one of the 3 factions.

Not quite, but kinda. Sonic community created a toxic environment around the brand which encourages non fans to act in similar manner.

Okey, I think I get it. I always thought that the vast majority of the Sonic community was divided between the first two groups. I wasn't really a fan of the 2D games at all, but I actually enjoyed a bit Generations and Colors, so I'm not sure in what part I'd be in XD. I think that, no matter how I enjoyed those two games, Sonic games lack a sense of better game design. Sometimes they feel too much telegraphed, and more than skills is a process of trial and error and memorize those stages. So, I don't think that the 3D formula doesn't work per se, it's just badly executed. Again, I'm talking based on 4 games I've played of the modern run (Colors, Lost World, Secret Rings and Generations), so that's not a really grounded opinion.

...so basically a 75 for Sonic 06... how? How.

How?

Why am I suddenly picturing Sonic in a suit with Clark Kent glasses and his hair combed to the side typing out reviews for Famitsu?

I'm still going to buy it. People seem to be against it simply because it's Sonic but this is basically generations 1.5. I simply don't see anything that makes me think this will be significantly worse than generations or colours or the day stages in unleashed

It is famitsu. Don't think they know a number lower than 30 if it is big enough franchiser.

Yeah, looks like a 2/5 or 5/10. I had hope for this game back when it was announced but I'm not going to buy it. Sonic is trying to hard and it doesn't need to to be a good game. Mania proves that. Oh well, the 3D Sonic Cycle continues.

It's Famitsu, they gave Star Fox Zero 8.8/10.

But that's nothing compared to them giving FF XIII 9.8/10 and FF XIII-2 10/10.

Famitsu scores are genuinely useless.
