Forums - Gaming - Violence Porn? TLoU2

You SHOULD feel sickened when you watch the trailer, you SHOULD feel angry when you see one human being take the life of another. For too long, this media has desensitised people to the reality of killing and this trailer exposes that fact better than any trailer before it. If more people were exposed to the 'truth' art hides behind camera angles, aggressive one liners and an exciting musical score, then perhaps people would think more deeply about the subject matter.

Grow up.

It was definitely intense, but appropriate for the setting. You mention The Walking Dead and there was definitely plenty of backlash for that scene as well, with several sources thinking they went too far and it was in bad taste.

Anyway, I was fine with it in the trailer, but wouldn't want TLOU to turn into torture and gore porn. I doubt that's the last we'll see of it in the game, though. The sequel's theme is supposed to be 'Hate' and will probably focus more on the brutality of the world and be more brazen about it than the first game's more discrete references.

Looking at the wounds in the trailer it's possible they've built an advanced damage and dismemberment system for the game, in which case they won't let it go to waste.

So lets just blame it all on the game engine? :P

Guess this is one of those situations where even bad publicity is good publicity.

So .... Uncharted?

Exactly!!! look at the scores of people that gets killed in other games. Shot guns, grenades, slit throats... chain saws. Look at games like man hunt, let it die, any FPS game that has a melee button.

I guess its ok as long as its not made to look as visceral as this.

Double standards for the win.

One outlet even went as far as say they were encouraging violence on women. Like wtf?

So .... Uncharted?

There's room for every types of expression but only the 'truth' is deemed controversial. Can't you see how messed up that is?

Thanks Christ for ND. The developers that made the greatest game ever made.

Oh I agree, but I think your comment is hyperbolic. It might have ... unintentionally shown a double standard in killing millions of people in one game and gruesomely showing violence in another, but it doesn't seem like an intentional statement saying "WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!! THIS IS BAD! BEING DESENSITISED IS BAD!" More like "this is disturbing, this is gross, this is the tone of our game". To say that there is room for multiple forms of expression and then say that naughty dog is exposing one form of expression in a positive way is almost contradictory. If you would have just said "this trailer exposes a double standard, and it fits the tone of the game" then I would agree with that. Maybe that's all you meant and your comment was just jumbled, I don't know.

Also lol ... come on? Greatest game ever? Not even close.

You're really going to act like someone with an Uncharted sig is "baiting" someone for saying The Last of Us isn't one of the greatest games ever made? The Last of Us is the best Naughty Dog game I've played by quite the margin, so it's not like I dislike it. I just thought that the entire comment was hyperbolic.

Besides the only important part of the comment was the top portion, it's fine if people think it's one of the greatest games ever.

there is only controversy because the violence is happening to women in the trailer. it's really nothing more than that

reminds me of the X-Men movie billboard they apologised for because the bad guy was holding a female character by the throat

Well you just got me to watch the trailer out of curiosity. Gotta say that wasn't very good imo.
The violence in and of itself isn't a problem, but there's just nothing interesting there to go with it. The whole trailer is just like "hey look! Violence and shit!" Ok.....so? What do I care? I don't know any of those characters. There's nothing else going on there. It doesn't tell me anything about the game other than, ya...it's still violent. As if we didn't all already know that would be the case.

Nothing to be outraged over. Just boring
