Forums - Nintendo - Would Nintendo offering to pay the difference in cost for 32 GB cards for third party releases a plausible solution

These download required games are making me wonder.

The 32 GB cards don't seem to be commonly obtained by third parties due to costs, but would they be if Nintendo was willing to take a hit and pay the difference for the larger cards.

That way less third party games need to download so much.

Or is this tied to the issues that PS4 and Xbox1 have with auto downloads on games these days and even if Nintendo offered it the third parties would have no reason to take it.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Then they would really not care about optimization, and start having 40-50gb games as the standard. Nothing would change.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

No, such benefits are only granted to games that are expected to move hardware.

Ha, are you saying only Nintendo games can move their hardware? I mean of course that's mostly true, but I'm sure something like GTA could make a decent impact and if the price was reasonable Nintendo would go for it, though after L.A. Noire inevitably bombs we'll never get to know.

No, that's not what I am saying. In the previous two generations we've already had Nintendo go after Monster Hunter. In the one before they had an even bigger partnership with Capcom, with the Resident Evil series being the crown jewel of the deal.

But when we are talking about titles like L.A. Noire and WWE 2k18, it's pretty obvious that preferential treatment is not justified.

Now that I can completely agree with!

It would be better if Nintendo just released a Switch with a much larger hard drive. Then no extra costs for them and there's no issue with having to download game files.

More flash memory would be extra cost for them. And normal HDDs are no option in undocked mode.

If one of the big 3rd parties were willing to take the plunge and release a game on a higher capacity disc and actually make a decent profit from it, then maybe others would follow. Long term this would drive down the prices of the higher capacity discs and be beneficial to all concerned.

Why should consumers or 3rd parties have to go the extra mile for the shit that Nintendo pulls then? I'm mainly referring to the tiny storage size, but also their decision to use cartridges in the first place.

Consumers like cartridges.

But polar bears don't. They aren't as tasty as a rusty iron pipe.

I guess we'll determine by LA Noire and WWE 2K18's sales whether or not it was worth it. If they flop, well then that is their tactic of cheapening costs by forcing a huge download will be shown as a failure.

Apparently not enough to download extra files in order to have a cartridge though...

You want Nintendo to use disks for a handheld?
