I'm already full digital.
256GB SD card and every game I own besides Zelda is digital.

I keep all my games on the card and I still have 173GB left after 18 games! This includes heavy hitters like NBA 2K (26GB) and Fire Emblem (13GB) and little titles like Sonic Mania (184MB).

So Sega should teach Nintendo how to compress their games.. there is no reason for Fire Emblem to takes 13GB  while Sonic Mania only use 184MB.

But Nintendo are pretty good at compression. It might have been Tecmo Koei's inability.

Mario Oddysey is more than 10x bigger than Sonic Mania =p

Similar to why a LA Noire is over 20GB instead of 3GB of Mario Oddissey. But we still got a thread over it.

Does it matter in the slightest how you get the games? Does it make the smallest bit of difference to the game you're playing?

For me it does! For example, I can buy a game once and play it on two consoles at the same time (PS4/XBO).

And, according to most sources, cartridges are slower than internal and external storage when it comes to load times.

What are you trying to argue? You've lost me.

I like physical...my main complaints with digital are:

- I can't sell a digital game
- I don't know if I can "keep" my digital games if I have to upgrade my console HW 10 years from now
- I hate waiting 10 minutes for patches when I just want to jump in and play
- The storage requirements are frustrating

The others are nothing more than principles.  Point 3 definitely makes a small bit of difference to the game I'm playing.  I've actually switched* to another console and not come back until a later date because I didn't feel like waiting for the loading.

*Ha ha.

when you talk about patching of a digital game? both retail and digital versions of game have the same patching method on the Switch, when the game offers a patch you get an option to launch the software unpatched if you choose to.

I guess it's true you can't sell on your digital collection that hasn't impacted me in many years as I didn't sell a game I bought for the last couple of generations.

When it comes to storage requirments on the Switch that is a thing to consider, but when it comes to the X1 and PS4 then if you buy retail or digital you need the space on your system, those can't just play from discs like last generation and you will need to just get used to doing a small bit of housekeeping every now and then even with 1/2TB of storage. As for the Switch I got a 128GB card in mine since launch and I still have close to 90GB free while having 21 titles for the system, only 5 of which are retail games the other 16 are digital downloads.

The Wii's eshop is being taken down next year which will have given it 12 years of life with the store, it will still be possible to take those downloaded games onto an SD card and keep them there but I do see the concern of potentially losing the ability to get a game back from over a decade ago, I think... I will lose access to maybe 3-4 digital downloaded eshop games.. but that said, I now have a wii modded to use a HDD filled with games... so I wont be sending an angry message to Nintendo about those games, just saying if you are a bit tech savvy then there is little to no chance that a console will remain unhacked for a longer time than the online store for it lasts.

Maybe! I have MK8D on the internal storage and the loading times.... are tiny, got Mario Odyssey on SD card and the loading times are jokes as well... do have Zelda on Cartridge and the loading time for that game is rather long... but I think that's down to the game slightly moreso than the hardware it's coming from.

Either way on the Switch right now, no game I've come up against has had terrible loading times from any area on the machine..... oh... Disgaea has an initial long (20 sec) loading time, but I forgave that for being a ps4 game ported to the little Switch that could!
