We need 2 occurrences to happen so PS5 exist.

Performance leap... something that can be at least 10x better than PS4 (4x PS4Pro, which is small)
SW sales and HW starting to decrease for we to mark the release of the new console at about 2 years after it start declining.

Neither happened yet, so 3 years is almost the minimum for PS4.

I think thats overkill for the PS5..... you dont need 18 Tflops for 4k.

Xbox One X is barely 6tflop and a weak cpu, and its doing okay.

12 Teraflops would be enough for PS5, along with 16 GB ram & stronger CPU, and just aim for that sweet 400$ again.

I dont want Sony go go overboard and make a 500-600$ monster console (repeat of ps3)... I rather they stuck to their 400$ price point.

PS4Pro is also doing fine, but why make a PS5 with only 3x more than PS4Pro? Better wait another year make a 400USD with a 50USD loss to be covered in games... The leap must be meaningfull, otherwise it will be done only because the sales have dwindled.

Forget about the jump size in terms of power.

Think about what it ll mean for the user, at 12 tflops developers wont have any issues at giveing better than current gen graphics at 4k.

If the cpu is powerfull enough that could easily be 60fps too.

Xbox One X is "almost" powerfull enough to give 4k current gen games.

The main thing will be the price of the unit, how cheap can they make that console, that matters alot more than the jump size.

And what powerhog gamer ever think "current gen graphics @4k"? High end PCs close to 12 tflops have a hard time doing 4k on ultra settings...

The price sure matters, but why make an early jump if you can't improve the technology enough and sales are still good?

The PS4 is receiving amazing games every year, why the hurry to jump a gen?

Im sure we all saw the TLOU II trailer yesterday, can somebody say that they are not pleased with those graphics?

I dont know about you guys, but im not drinking the 4Kool Aid.

Name me ONE game on the Xbox One X that looks better than the top tier PS4 exclusives.

Ill wait.

People want a Horizon type of game every month without taking into consideration that those games take at least 4-5 years to be made.

I think PS5 won`t be around before 2020. The thing is development in this gen is super expensive already, another leap in development costs that will come along with a new machine that will push towards native 4k as standard( i gave up waiting for 60 fps to be standard for console) and massive leap in graphics quality (wich is not the same as resolution) is something the market is not ready for.

A new gen only justifies when developers start to feel the current hardware is limiting their creativity. I cant wait for the news of GTA PS5 being the first Billion Dollar budget game.

What you are describing is like a PS4 Premium, a model above the Pro. PS5 should offer both 4K, and a major shift in game development, not simply PS4/XBO games in native 4K.

I have no issue with another console that can play PS4/XBO gams at 4K/60, but lets not waste the next gen moniker on it. Save PS5 and Next Xbox for when we have SSD, 64 - 128GB of RAM, and the ability to create games using ray tracing and other new advanced techniques.
