Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo intends to maintain a steady stream of releases for Switch

I'd hope so. The biggest selling point for any console is its line up of games.

Remember when Nintendo would never re-release Smash 4 on Switch? That aged well.

A steady stream of nothing lol.

They broke their promise very soon.
I believe having Yoshi and FE, alongside Pokemon, Smash and SMP was going to be a very good recovery, but now August and Sep are a wasteland.
MH XX is the only big game coming in these months.
I agree that Fortnite and MT Aces, alongside Octopath Traveler can maintain part of the sales, but I don't expect that from MH and Sep is without a big game.

This years it's just Smash Ultimate, Monster Hunter, Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Party, and Octopath. The only entirely new game guaranteed to get over 80 on aggregate review sites is Smash.

A bunch of games still have generic Summer/Fall dates like Octo Expansion, Dark Souls, Fighter Z, ARK, Arena of Valor, Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity 2, Valkyria Chronicles 4, etc. many of these may land in that Aug-Oct pre-holiday timeframe.

Given the sales of 3D Mario, Mario Kart, and Pokemon, I think calling Smash their only S tier franchise very hyperbolic. And Fire Emblem is above Kirby and Yoshi now, gotta say.

And I don't think Smash 5 is coming in 2018.  I also don't think Smash 4 is either.  Because contrary to the rhetoric of some, Nintendo doesn't "need" Smash in 2018.  They have numerous other franchises, this isn't the Wii U that was on death's door in 2014 before Kart arrived and Smash hype ramped up (though it proved a very short lived revival).  I could absolutely see Smash announced in 2018 to be released in 2019.  And assuming GCN Virtual Console shows up, Smash Melee may be a good thing to push out immediately.

My guess for 2018's big Holiday title is Pomemon, Animal Crossing, or some unannounced game.  They are playing with their cards very close to the vest though so hard to say.  But I think there will be far fewer Wii U ports coming than people are thinking.  Nintendo seems quite aware of how that move could backfire on them in a public relations sense.

Also, you talk about how extremely long dev time for Smash is...then point out Smash 4 was developed in a little lver 2 years :P

I haven't even started thinking about Smash 5, since I'm still waiting to see what they do with Smash 4 on Switch first (assuming that's the case).

Smash 5 can wait until next generation like every other Smash.

Smash 5 will come out for Switch.  As will Mario Kart 9.  It's a matter of when.  Not if.

You seem to be rather quiet there Nostradamus.

Indeed. After taking some time I was thinking about this. Maybe doing an overall 2018 schedule would help us.

I think that this may foreshadow a July-August mini direct.

Yoshi oficially delayed to 2019.
My guess is February for Yoshi and FE for June.
We need a game for April amd we may know the first party lineup for the first half of the next year.
