Awesome.  Where is that +1 button. someone was talking about..  ;)

Would be nice to add a color and split gray between never posted and never seen.  (If you run out of things to do...  lol)

Maybe grey can be never seen, red never posted, and orange posted but new replies?

I wouldn't use red for that. We live in a world where red is associated with warning or danger, so I'd not use it or change the whole scale of colours to use red as being quoted.

Something along the lines of

Grey = You've never been in the thread
Blue = You've visited, but never posted in the thread
Green = No new replies since you last posted
Orange = There are new replies since you last posted
Red = You've been quoted in the thread

just my 2cts

I'm certainly fine with whatever combination of colors people want to come up with - now that the bug has been fixed and the code agrees with the VGBuddy feature, it makes no difference to me what the logic is.

I'd be happier having two different 'black' icons - one that looks like a 'closed' envelope (for new, unread posts) and one that looks like an 'open' envelope (for posts you've read, but not commented in). Somebody feel free to design me some icons, and I'll implement - because I don't do that kind of stuff...  ;)

That's a great idea!!

Some threads I click on to see what they are. If I didn't post in it, odds are I don't care about it. Thus I would like to to stay the same as "never been in the thread' in the first place.

Yeah, that's why I think Talon's proposal is a good solution, with like the close and open envelopes.

Indeed.

And, expanding what Talon said, it could be easier for all of us to have a black icon for "not visited" threads, leaving the rest of the forum colours the same as they are now.

Well, there are threads I don't post because I'm not really that much into the topic, but I do read the comments there. For example: the NeoGAF in shambles and the Football threads.

I made some envelopes. I can adjust them if they're not up to quality standards.

Also, Wright suggested keeping the Black Pencil for threads that have been read, but not posted in, and having a question mark for unread threads that haven't been posted in.

How would it work?

Question mark_Not read, not posted
Pencil_Read but not posted
Open envelope_ Posted but with no new posts
Closed envelopes_ Posted and with new posts
...

And maybe leave the exclamation mark for when you've been quoted?

It sounds like Talon is just replacing the Black Pencil.

Closed envelope: Not read, not posted
Open envelope: Read, not posted
Green pencil: Read, posted
Orange exclamation mark: Not read, posted
Blue speech bubble: Not read, quoted

And where does the question mark fit?

In any case, I think there should be a thread about it so more people will know about the upcoming changes, share their thoughts and maybe even vote one design.

That was an alternative to the envelopes that Wright proposed.

Black pencil: Read, not posted

Sounds good to me, but we're forgetting the "read, but not posted, with new replies" option... This is getting out of hand.
