I'm certainly fine with whatever combination of colors people want to come up with - now that the bug has been fixed and the code agrees with the VGBuddy feature, it makes no difference to me what the logic is.

I'd be happier having two different 'black' icons - one that looks like a 'closed' envelope (for new, unread posts) and one that looks like an 'open' envelope (for posts you've read, but not commented in). Somebody feel free to design me some icons, and I'll implement - because I don't do that kind of stuff...  ;)

I made some envelopes. I can adjust them if they're not up to quality standards.

Also, Wright suggested keeping the Black Pencil for threads that have been read, but not posted in, and having a question mark for unread threads that haven't been posted in.

How would it work?

Question mark_Not read, not posted
Pencil_Read but not posted
Open envelope_ Posted but with no new posts
Closed envelopes_ Posted and with new posts
...

And maybe leave the exclamation mark for when you've been quoted?
