Before the last entry, Layton only had one instance of appearing on mobile aside from the spin-off and that was way back on the first game ... A main entry of Inazuma Eleven appearing on non-Nintendo platforms is a historic feat since that was Level-5's last franchise to go multiplatform and it coming to the PS4 is just a bonus since they are finally starting to pay attention to the only serious current home console left in Japan ... Yokai Watch maybe synonmous with Nintendo but they can't ignore a strong and established western market with PS4 and not especially with Layton since that series used to be big in Europe ... I think we're pretty much in agreement here when there's no reason for 3rd party japanese developers to stay exclusively on Nintendo systems anymore from a game design, technical or even an IP ownership perspective ... |
Its nothing about the PS4 being the only strong home console in Japan, since thats factually wrong(given the Switch is there killing it).Its about the power gap between the Switch and the PS4, while still considerable, its not as big as 3DS to PS4 is, so there is no reason to not go multiplatform and try to appeal to a new audience. It would simplz be stupid from Level 5 to ignore the PS4 install base in Japan or worldwide for games that now doesnt need extra work porting over(either to the PS4 or to the Switch).
This logic actually extends to all third party developers, and it goes both ways(Switch and PS4).
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
