If it was so simple as running away, a lot of rapes, assaults, robberies, etc. wouldn't even occur.

Knives, pepper spray, avoidance of dangerous areas, all those things will protect you much better than guns.

"Avoidance of dangerous areas" Some people are poor, and thus are forced to live into cheaper housing that can be dangerous.

Very hard for the common citizen you mean right? Or does the criminals over there rob unarmed?

Pretty much. You're much more likely to get pickpocketed than actually mugged. And in the event you did get mugged the chances of it being with a gun are absolutely miniscule. More likely to be a knife, or even just their fists.

In Brazil it still is more likely to be pickpocked and probably fake gun but being a knife or nothing than an actual gun (since you can't be sure you assume worse), the scale is just different.

Well here you never assume gun. It's even strange to see cops with guns, that's very unusual!

Yep.

Don't anyone here take me wrong... I don't have a gun (would like to have some for shooting range every now and then), but I accept the right of the citizen to have one. But I also would trade out my right for a gun if 100% sure the criminals wouldn't have one (sure one or another will happen) as is in Japan. Now if the government isn't fully capable of protecting me then it can't take my right to protect myself (as is in Brazil, as as some people here want to do in USA).

And just as a very relevant point for people here that believe in gun control.

http://www.theblaze.com/news/2017/01/09/over-98-of-mass-shootings-occurred-on-gun-free-zones-research-shows/

You guys can check other sources, but the relevant information is that it claims that 98% of mass shooting occured in gun free zone, meaning, areas were the government is supposed to have total control of gun carried...

If you listen to the NRA and the rest of the gun nuts you won't survive unless you own guns to protect your land and your family. Sounds pretty wild west to me.

I don't listen to the NRA. However, victims of hate crimes, like transsexuals, need a means to defend themselves.

Shooting people for using the wrong pronouns?

Gun laws in the US should not exist. Americans have an absolute right to own and carry guns without any interference from the state.

The video isn't funny to me, as it is clearly made by people with no understanding of guns, or the politics around them, or even basic human rights.

Knives, pepper spray, avoidance of dangerous areas, basic self defense, all those things will protect you much better than guns.

Guns are a form of basic self defense, and they are far more effective than pepper spray.  They also serve a different roll than knives.

As for avoidance of dangerous areas - you're right, of course, that doing so will reduce risk to your person.  But, sometimes one wants, or even needs, to go to a dangerous area.  In that case, one should be allowed to take whatever steps they wish to protect themself.

Of course, you can find studies to refute all of that.  And I can find studies to support it.  The issue is so political, that there are garbage "facts" available on all sides.  None of that matters though.  At the end of the day, all humans have the basic human right to do whatever they want, so long as it doesn't infringe on the right of others to do the same.  No government "law" can change that fact.  So, there is no moral basis for restricting one's right to own or carry firearms.

Are those counted as crimes? No, they're not.
