Forums - Sales Discussion - Forza Motorsport sales evolution and future?

FM1      FW --         FM --        LTD 1.05M        HW at launch Xbox original --

FM2      FW 14k     FM 550k  LTD 4.05M        HW at launch X360 @ 10M (stablished a strong franchise after weak release) - debut as 42th

FM3      FW  210k  FM 0.9M LTD 5.49M        HW at launch X360 @ 33M (increased all sales metrics) - debut as 7th

FM4      FW  515k  FM 1M     LTD 4.57M        HW at launch X360 @58M (more frontloaded but a little smaller LT) - debut as 1st

FM5      FW  326k  FM 640k  LTD 2.31M        HW at launch X1 @ 1M      (being of decline, but new generation could explain) - debut as 6th

FM6      FW  221k  FM 440k  LTD 2M             HW at launch X1 @ 14.4M (dropped a little after the previous tittle even with more userbase) - debut 2nd

FM7      FW       FM      LTD         HW at launch - all not available yet, but amazon, UK and Japan ranks aren't high at the moment.

Had it appex at X360 in FM3 and stayed strong, but declined severely on X1, have the userbase migrated to FH, PS4 or excessive iterations made it lost appeal? Also used to debut at top of the week sellers but dropped from ranking.

FH1      FW  316k     FM  578k    LTD 2M        HW at launch X360 @ 71M -debut as 2nd

FH2      FW  88k@X360+235k@X1     FM 168k@X360+367k@X1     LTD 0.8M@X360+1.41M@X1  HW at launch X360@83M, X1@6M - rank 7th and 12th (4th if consolidated)

FH3      FW  406k     FM 680k    LTD 2.54M     HW at launch X1 @ 23M  - debut at 3rd

Forza Horizon have kept steady and constant sales (accross FW, FM and LT) and transition from X360 to X1 and now is ahead of the original Forza Motorsport.

So what are yours perspectives for the future of the franchise?

With the recent controversy I even expect to sell it less than 2M LT...mostly because it doesn’t differ from FM6 that much. It’s possible X1X release will give it a boost as a showcase title but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Amazon sales for it are abit depressing (US charts), 2days and its out of the top100.
It depends on how well it does in europe I guess.

With X1 being weaker in Europe and GTS coming around it may do bad even over there.

Horizon is the game people seem to get excited about. Forza Motorsport needs to find something new to add to the formula.

Forza Horizon will continue to go up imo, while Forza Motorsport will continue to go down until MS finally decides to give them 3 years per game instead of 2.

They’re definitely overplaying the franchise. At least Horizon does get new environments all the time. It’s just hard to sell a game if you just upgrade it a little bit just like they do with FIFA every year. Certain monetising options certainly don’t help.

But looking at the numbers FH would need to start to go up instead of continue to... because the sales of the 3 titles so far have been quite similar.

Horizon 3 is definitely up. It has the highest physical sales in the series on a single platform to date, and it is still selling, particularly in the UK, where it still makes top 10 on the weekly charts occasionally and top 20 frequently. Plus digital is higher than ever, when FH1 released digital accounted for maybe 10% of console sales, possibly less. Now console digital account for 25% or more typically.

You got double post, but no worry.

You may be right, I was looking at the VG numbers only and they are more or less stable, and unfortunatelly a 20% rise on sales on VG isn't considered much. But I hope you are right and FH4 is even bigger, better and sell a lot more.

Here's a link to VGC's game tracking tool for the Horizon series: Link

As you can tell, Horizon 3 is tracking way ahead of Horizon 1, and is even tracking ahead of the combined 360+XB1 sales for Horizon 2 if you add up their sales for the current week. So not only is it tracking ahead physically, it should easily be tracking ahead digitally as well since console digital sales have continually increased over the years. Horizon 3 digital will have also been boosted by PC users, not a ton since it's Windows Store exclusive, but some.

I feel like as long as Playground continues to innovate when it comes to features, continues to choose good settings for each game, and continues to add more to each game (cars, map size, events, radio stations, etc.) the sales should continue trending upwards. Hopefully they improve the engine a good bit for Horizon 4 as well, I'd love to see at least the X version of Horizon 4 match Driveclub's graphics.

Making openworld graphics on level of closed is very large improvement... but I agree it can keep increasing. Just don't know by how much.

Its doing bad because there are too many of them and its not FH which people seem to like more.
ALSO what people are missing is that a huge chunk of previous Forza game sales came from bundles.
Therefore there is no reason to expect FW or LTD sales to be anywhere over half of Forza 6.
