Forums - Gaming - Pick your poison: Timed DLC vs Timed Exclusivity

Would you rather wait for:

DLC 47 67.14%

Full Game 23 32.86%

Total:70

I'd vote for Trump.

What would you rather, lose a finger, or lose a hand.

I pick the finger, not everyone who buys the game will also buy the DLC, so having the DLC held back is better.

But still a scum move.

Depends on what the dlc is and how long the game is delayed. Also, depends on how late in the generation the game is delayed. For example, if PUBG is delayed longer than a year it may as well be an xbox exclusive because the PS5 and xbox two will be out by then.

Waiting a year for a game might enthrall the fact that it comes with every single DLC released in a single disc (i.e. like GOTY versions, just called something else, like "Definitive" or whatever), and there's also chances that it comes with a price reduction instead of the original price. Considering there's no shortage of videogames right now, I'd take waiting a year for a game.

Would you still wait for a year or more if it is a game that you are dying to play?

Since I'm so late with pretty much everything, I don't really care much either way. That said, if I really had to choose, obviously I'd choose DLC. I rarely buy it anyway, so I'd rather wait for something I don't buy anyway than wait for something I might actually get.

Full game.

If I buy something, I want the whole thing, not just a part of it.

Would you like it if you went into a store and purchase Spiderman Homecoming and the movie stopped halfway and you had to buy the rest a few months later. Or would you rather just wait those few months for the whole movie at once.

Me, I would personally wait. Timed exclusive it just like waiting for a movie to come out on DVD versus seeing it in theaters. I can wait.

I'd rather wait a year for DLC than for a whole game, because I don't give two sh*ts about that. Timed exclusivity is just bullying.

Neither one is good. If a company really needs a publisher's money to keep the project going, chances are that the same publisher will force them to make the game exclusive. Timed exclusivity just means a check for just holding back a version of the game for quite some time.

But back to the topic, timed DLC is the least bad alternative. At least you can have (ideally) a full game at the same time as everyone else.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

If I'd have to pick, I'd rather wait for the DLC, but it really doesn't matter to me all that much since I practically never buy games at launch anyway. I have no problem waiting until their prices come down before buying.

99.9% of all DLCs in the World - garbage. So, I have zero problem with timed DLC.
