This things are becoming yearly events on US, that's very concerning.

Well there is a violence problem here in general. Many of the annual murders aren't even committed with guns.

The whole Islam extremist thing has probably helped the frequency and we're a massive country.

ISIS have claimed responsibility, stating that the shooter converted to Islam several months ago. This could just be psychological warfare against the US, but we'll know soon enough.

Like many other attacks that ISIS claim, I believe that it was an individual act that they're trying to take credit for to seem bigger than they actually are.

It needs to be investigated and I'm also skeptical. But it certainly matters if ISIS motivated this attack.

You don't need great training to load magazines and swap.

Did 450 people get hit with bullets? If so, that's pretty amazing. I assume a lot of injuries could be trampling, slips, etc.

He hit many people because it was a massive crowd and he was above. You can do that with pistols as well.

Edit: He apparently had more than 10 rifles. So as I suggested, this guy was really motivated to kill a lot of people.

Kind of strange he wasted so much money on rifles, when you say he could have done it just as easily with a few pistols!

I and I'm sure others were under the impression it was one rifle.

Eitherway, that was a massive crowd and pistols could have been very deadly as well. They're the leading killers in this country, show a little respect.

Can we just keep in mind those saying you need these guns to protect you from all the lethal bears in the States there have been 3 fatal bear attacks since September 2014 in the States.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_bear_attacks_in_North_America

This is the 240+th Mass shooting (greater than 4 people shot) in 2017

This is the equivalent of suggesting drinking bleach to stop a nasty stomach bug for your country.

Only 1 terror attack in the history of your country?

I assumed he was refering to ISIS related terror.
Counting domestic ones, it seems we've had 3 other incidents (4 in total) that were carried out 1940, 1975, 2010, 2017.
The total death toll in those incidents were, 5 + 4 + 1 +4.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism_in_Sweden

Although I think you could categorize a couple more incidents as terror attacks, but overall it's a handfull of times.

Well, it's quite lucky that the 2010 bombing got no one killed or that the 2016 bomb plot was twarted. Same with the 2011 assassination attempt.

Yes. And it's not like any attacks of this nature were never stopped in the US either. The point is that this tends to be a rare occurance in developed countries. But in the US mass shootings are occuring frequently.

You can do a lot about the average Joe's who want to go on killing sprees. Some, but significanbtly less, to thwart organizations that spend millions to build a network of agents to carry out these deeds.

However to be fair, in this particular case, it was probably hard to do much about this. He might have slipped through the cracks regardless. Although if guns were banned I doubt he would have that many assault rifles. If a semi-automatic rifle costs 34 000 on the black market, I don't know what a fully automatic rifle would cost.

"frequently" isnt the right word.... constantly is what your looking for.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2017/oct/02/america-mass-shootings-gun-violence

1,516 mass shootings in 1,735 days

"No other developed nation comes close to the rate of gun violence in America. Americans own an estimated 265m guns, more than one gun for every adult.

Data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive reveals a shocking human toll: there is a mass shooting – defined as four or more people shot in one incident, not including the shooter – every 9 out of 10 days on average."

9 out of 10 days, theres a mass shooting (4+ people shot, in 1 incident) in the US.

Thats basically every day.

When there are massive things like this, it's always with guns, weapons are what make it easily doable.

Anyway, here in Brazil there is this stupid trend that's becoming popular on people wanting to have the right to wear guns like in the US, and I can't, or better, don't, want to even imagine how bad things would get around here if it was to happen.

I hope this case helps people to understand how guns being accepted in society should be out of question.

People are already very bad as they are, giving them guns is beyond stupidity.

I think the bigger problem in Brazil though is extreme poverty and inequality, where desperate people become more violent, other people get guns to protect themselves from the desperate people, and gangs make money off of selling guns to those groups.

Right, the first thing that came to mind is Brazil has huge problems even before you introduce gun freedoms.

He also believes people are "very bad," with that logic people naturally lean into taking away freedoms.

Frankly, US gun crimes would be down significantly if we really went after gangs but some fear that would be racist.

The bigger problem is that people are bad by nature.

Most people aren't desperate, just violent, as they have always been, having money makes people forget it a bit, or focus it in some other ways, but being violent is on human nature.

People mostly get guns because of anything but defense, don't fall for that.

We`re violent because of our desire to survive, once those needs are met we can focus on other things. Rememebr that even cats and dogs like to play.
