I'm not gonna lie.... I used to have a problem with criticism. Whenever I address an issue that isn't a joke, I try to do it in the most calm, rational way possible and try to look at all the viewpoints of a particular argument. Even when these steps were taken... I'd get smart people who used rational points to argue my points. This resulted in me adopting the shitty habit of using ad-hominem arguments to attack them back. I've learned to accept different points of view but I can still empathize with people who take criticism the wrong way. In the case of the user you are referring to, I think he doesn't understand the syntax or diction he uses to present his argument. I think he believes that his arguments presented are based off of objectivity and any disagreement based on them are just "hating" on him. I don't think excessive hate is warranted on him... but I do think he needs to understand that discussion on VGChartz is centered around the concept of being able to take criticism.

Hmm. I can agree with this and there's some areas that I could work on with taking criticism. Everyone is bound to be sensitive about certain things that's hard for them to accept any criticism. I don't think the problem lies in criticism but rather around debates or disagreements in general.

For a lot of people, it's okay to win debates or arguments by attacking a person's character. It's a very normal thing to do. It's very easy to win that way and it's very hard to win my the merit of your argument. Also, most people can't control their emotions in debates and a lot of 'em conflate their opinion with their feelings so if you challenge their opinion, they'll take it as an attack on their feelings or as them as a person then they'll go for ya as a person. It's no different on a forum except there's rules that won't allow for this method of debating.

Debating is really a matter of controlling one's emotions in the heat of the moment and remaining impersonal about it. It's a good general rule. It allows you to debate with a clear head and with little to no stress from it. That's the best way if your intention is to converse and debate with others in a respectful way or in a neutral way. For some, it's only about being right and feeding their ego by having people echo their opinions as being right. For others, it's about the entertainment of getting a rise out of others.

Nothing wrong with having fun on the expense of some idiots who make life worse for everyone else. It's retribution and kinda like a zen experience. You should try it some time.
