Forums - Nintendo - The Wii Shop Channel's Closure is Killing 224 Virtual Console Games

To be honest, if Nintendo actually start doing the Virtual Console for the Switch, I could see most of these games making a comeback. I think Nintendo just didn't really want to bother with licensing most games for the Wii U due to the lack of demand for the Wii U.

licensing doesn't seem simple and could be more of a headache than worth the cost. Especially since some of the VC on Wii were games on consoles outside of Nintendo's portfolio (i.e., Sega Master System, Commodore 64, TurboGrafix, Arcades, etc.). Yes, Neo Geo games are on Switch, but SNK seems more than willing to put those games on the new console anyway. From what I remember, Sega no longer wanted to participate in providing their games on VC during this current gen and preferred to release them on their own accord. Also, there were licenses like TMNT that expired and were removed on VC.

Well if Sega doesn't want to make 5 dollars a game on Master System and 8 dollars a game on Genesis (yes I know Nintendo is take a cut of that) then it is their own damn fault.  This after they had success with their 3D arcade and console games on the 3DS...  Just like dumb ass EA never putting shit on Wii VC.  Guess what EA?  Origin can go fuck itself and if you want to sell your classic games then you'll have to put them on other platforms instead of trying to keep them on a closed ecosystem.  Just think how many copies of Road Rash or Desert Strike they could have sold on the Wii VC in its heyday.

Lost sales

If someone wrote "Nintendo can go fuck itself and if you want to sell your classic games then you'll have to put them on other platforms instead of trying to keep them on a closed ecosystem.", there would be many complaints. But it seems to be okay in this forum to rage about EA, Activision or Ubisoft anytime.

By the way, i got a lot of EA  classics outside of Origin:

EA is fair game because they aren't part of the big 3.  I'd rather play old console games on my TV (I use computer monitors for my PCs) rather than through my computer but that is just my personal taste.  There is no excuse for EA for not putting VC games on Nintendo's eshop.  If they don't want to do it then I'm not going to give them any money.  A person pissed off about Nintendo's closed ecosytem can say the same thing.  The difference is Nintendo is a console manufacturer and game developer.  EA is just a developer.

I have Steam and I have Nintendo consoles.  I don't want to sign up for gog or origin.  Also, I don't see any retro console games on Steam from EA.  Pretty soon everything will be so fragmented that you'll have to have 200 programs just to play games.  What a promising future that will be.

Nothing lasts forever. Besides, the Wii is easily hacked.

I've seen this big number thrown around a few places. I don't know how accurate it is. One thing I will point out, is that they might not be digital versions, but all the Metal Slug games will still be playable on the Wii. You just need to get the Metal Slug Anthology.

If you owned a physical retro/vintage compilation games for the PS2, PS3, GCN & Wii(Perhaps PS1, N64, SNES, Dreamcast, Saturn & Sega CD) you wouldn't care about those services like Wii shop, eShop & PSN store.

Always save your 1st gen PS3 & 1st gen Wii for physical retro/vintage compilation games.

Sigh i hope they still cheap this year... *shakes head*

R.I.P Pulseman and Milons Doki Doki Journey, may they find rerelease some day.
