Forums - Nintendo - Who are Sidebar Games? (Golf Story Dev)

On the dev studio Sidebar Games.

They seem to be shrouded in mystery. The only game they have listed is Golf Story, which is like a cross between Golf and Earthbound. It's incredibly polished looking, and has all the charm of an Iwata game (Kirby, Earthbound, etc...). If this is some small indie dev, then this is unprecedented quality for an initial launch - typically the games don't hit quality of this level for months to years after launch.

Anyone know anything about the studio?

Note: Oops I did it again, I posted a Nintendo topic in the Gaming Discussion forum. If a mod could move it, I'd be appreciative.
I'll pay much closer attention in the future.

10 seconds in and wow.
The attention to detail with the HD rumble.

Does the video say who they are for those that are not in a position to watch right now?

If I were to guess I would say they are a small team of passionate gamers/developers that created their own studio and are in love with what they do. Thus they put a lot of care and effort into this game, not for sales but because they wanted to make a game they would enjoy.

My thoughts we be to compare them to No Man's Sky dev team except for two things.
1. They didn't set their bar too high, goals too high, promise undeliverable promises (similar to Fable)
2. They didn't flat out lie to consumers what was possible in said game (Us consumers can understand not accomplishing all you hoped to do, but don't tell us something is possible when it isn't)

I wasn't too impressed at first but the more I look at it the more it looks like a solid game. I'm a big fan of golf games but not too much into RPGs but I think I would enjoy this game. I'll probably get it once I pick up a Switch sometime next year.

As a note - the video is only the trailer for the game. I should post the direct link when I get home tonight; but note, it can be reached from the website front page already linked.

I played a little bit of this game, and it is a little shocking at how great it feels. This seems like it's from a highly experienced team. Very skilled developers. Everything about it screams quality. The writing is also great, as though they really did their homework with Earthbound (like head and shoulders above other attempts)... or have written dialogue for games professionally before. It's all great work so far on this game.

I'd actually be a little surprised if it is just a small team - despite what the game looks like.

According to NintendoLife, they are a new studio and this is their first game!

I never heard anything really about the studio, but I have read that they use some Australian slang in the dialog, so its been assumed that the devs are Australians.

I really have never seen anyone that has heard of them before or knows anything about them

What does "Sucked in" mean?

I was watching some gameplay, and I have a feeling they are an Australian or European studio with the slang which some I was like "huh?" on.

The polish of the game was enough for me to get it. Even though the last time I actually played a golf game was Mario Golf for the N64...for what is a studio's first game (I didn't know that before this thread) it is impressive what they released.

The Aussie "sucked in" is similar to the German "schadenfreude"; it's used to express happiness at someone else's (usually a friend's) misfortune.
