Turned out car damage isn't any fun online. A good penalty system works much better. Otherwise most people leave before the end of the race and you sit there waiting for the lobby to fill up again, to likely get rammed in the first corner anyway. It's much more satisfying to see the sob that tried to ram you helplessly ghost through your car into the grass.

Fair point. Online racing often turns into demolition derbies, so I guess this is understandable (though I doubt Gt7 will bring any improvement to that category, looking at gt's history).

The penalty system was fairly decent, but could use some improvement. Most lobbies left it on anyway, so it was accepted. (Unlike temp or permanent damage which was rarely used) What it needs is an illegal pass detection and make you wait until the car you cut off has overtaken you again. Perhaps that's in GT Sport, dunno. We usually resolved that ourselves online. Admit you made a bad pass and slow down or get kicked. GT5s online depended a lot on a good fair host though. Hard to achieve the same with random matchmaking.

GT5s silly crash physics did create a lot of fun in Cat and Mouse races. Good way to blow off some steam before getting serious again. At least it gave the destruction derby players a place to be :)

I have a theory...

People didn't like Project Cars so they weren't that excited about the sequel.

I have Projects Cars and I'm not a fan. I genuinely don't like how it feels, the UI was unappealing, the game just felt soulless. I'm sure the sequel is better, but its suffering from how people felt about the original.

And I'm almost sure that the destruction derby style players wouldn't like that after a small bump their car would become so slow that they wouldn't be able to catch up.

Forza is the king of racers so this actually makes sense.

Exactly. It's like wondering why sales of a theoretical No Man's sky 2 would be down, no matter how good it might actually be.
Project cars lost a lot of good will after all the hype and subsequent mediocre game.

This topic is about sales of PC2, so if you are saying that it didn't sold well because Forza is the king of racers on sales then you are mistaken.

Regarding sales, it isn't.

However, the demo (at least) for Forza 7 was pretty solid. Currently playing Horizon 3 and I'm mad that I missed this gem last year!

Forza Horizon 3 will likely be the best selling Racing Game in 2017 in the UK
Not Gran Turismo Sport, not Forza Motorsport 7, not Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and not Need for Speed Payback

Perhaps they should just port the first one or perhaps this one to the Switch. Sure there would be downgrades but that is a given.  It should still be possible if they actually put effort into it.  However, they did piss off a decent amount of their potential Nintendo customers with the way they treated Wii U owners by acting like they were still going to drop the game on Wii U and then finally at the end just say it can't be done after barely trying.

There is a void of simulation racers on Nintendo consoles that could get filled.

the marketing has been almost non-existent

Based on no substantial data at all.

If you've watched the uk charts you would know that it has charted in the top 10 consistently throughout week in and week out. It's also #30 on amazon uk for yearly charts, with additional sales from the xbox forza number at #87 (not that I think GT won't outsell it, but just trying to point that there is some data to go by).

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.
