After having spent a week on this single title i can definitely say this: this game is far from perfect.
Near ps2 gfx, controls that while responsive enough to get going with the game, do not actually give us all the freedom that we could and should expect. Online play is something of a joke. Sure we get to play but no chat whatsoever, no rankings, no waiting lists. Connecting with someone for a match is tricky business if you wish to find someone other than a friend.
All the above while annoying do not destroy the brilliance of the game, fortunately. Never before have i had the chance to put all of my team to good use. Overlapping is no longer a fools dream, you make it happen. The aiming system is by far the most accurate from all the versions of the game, allowing the gamer to pull off plays that put the PS3 and xbox360 versions of the title to shame. The shear amount of possible plays is staggering. And while the cpu does tend to help you out during the matches (by somehow not jumping on the ball when in the nearest possible distance and thus allowing me to land a shot in the back of the net) the game is by no means a walk in the park. The AI, while not sharp as a knife, will make life a lot harder on you than in previous installments. Combine their never ceasing hunting for the ball being in your possesion with the need to quickly and precisely plan your passes/shots (and you will need planning when up against the better teams) and you will find yourself swearing at yourself for the lack of concentration near the penalty area, just like in real life..
One thing that does make one wonder is why on earth did konami choose to replace the standard Master League with the knew Champions road. True that this new creation is quite fun and rewarding but all the same it is not up to par with the before mentioned Master League. Maybe this is a mere experiment on Konami's side, which may be looking for a way to bring in some serious changes to the ML in future Pro Evo games. No matter, since the lack of ML is quite clear and unfortunately a mistake.
Online play is strange. You have an complete overview of what your opponent is about to do, yet most players will not use this properly. Just a few hours ago a blew away a man nicked Alex some 10:0. He did not once even manage to shoot on goal during the whole match. Not like i didn't make any stupid blunders along the way or somehow magically hid my plans for the play, the man just didn't have a clue as to plan defense against a live player. This brings me to my point, while plaing with the cpu, it's attacks are maybe not limited, but mostly easy to read, although not like in other pro evo games. When playing against a live person however, we enter the world of little to no limitations on play through strategies. The end of possible plays show only when you display the lack of creativity to bring them to reality. From where i stand, this is really the best football game to date. Immersive, fun and quick gameplay will make you want to put your skills to the test again and again. Head warning though, you will not wondrously find yourself to be good at playing this title. It's at least a matter of one full day's training before you will have mastered the basic and semi advanced mechanisms allowing you to start gaining ground against the cpu during the single player experience. There are some drawbacks: gimpy online play, not as sharp as can be controls, AI problems, lack of vital game modes.....yet this mere nit picking. Fact of the matter is that we have a new standard for football games. And it's only on Wii.
Sweet 9.0/10
That's all for my Pro Evo review, i would like to know Your oppinions on this game as well as how many of you would like to plays some matches online. My Wii Friend number is 2664 2151 5013 .
