Well it won't kill off PS4... maybe the ps5.
Anyways if one thing is likely is that the switch may conpletely basterdize sony's japanese third party lineup. A LOT of thouse were riding off the vita...

| killeryoshis said: That can happen. TBH I think that will be a small problem until the PS5 and Xbox 4 come out. I think once those console come out we will see how big that problem can be. That will be the real test for AAA western 3rd party support. |
It WILL happen, there's always going to be that AAA dev who will seriously push graphics on home consoles to the point where we ALWAYS end up with 30FPS games regardless of what generation ...
Realistically speaking, I can only see the Switch's successor in the ballpark of base PS4 performance in docked mode but where does that leave it when PS4's successor comes out with a 15+TFlops system ? (I don't imagine it will be a small problem either when devs will blow all that power on making 1080p@30fps games too.)

1) Nope. Nobody is getting killed. Someone will be forced to leave the games industry. I didn't say Sony, I said Playstation. 2) In other words, you have no idea if the Switch is matching the PS4. It is specualtion based on a few NPD results and Japan numbers. Believe me I wish we had more but it's all I have to go on and its fun trying to predict the future. 3) I don't know where that idea would come from. Everyone always looks at the current situation instead of looking where all the new stuff is coming from, Minecraft, Roblox, Rocket League etc. Switch (imo) will be first before PS4 for these kinds of games |
Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)
Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!
I live in a country where Nintendo is non-existent and Sony is the leader of the market and i'm sure there're more countries where this is the case. How is nintendo supposed to sell a family friendly console to kids when their games are not translated? Meanwhile Playstation offers professional dubbing in almost each of their exclusives. Nintendo is focused too much on America and Japan and doesn't have that incredible worldwide reach that the PS brand has and it seems that Nintendo still doesn't care about expanding and is a short-sighted company. Sad that so many people ignore this fact.
Nintendo hasn't quite matched Sony at this point and lets pretend for the sake of argument that Sony has and will probably maintain a 50 million console lead. The problem with this piece is that it has not been established how even matching Sony would kill them. And if Microsoft will probably only suffer a 'near kill' by being dominated by the other two, we need to establish what 'kill' means and how a less sever lose to Nintendo would kill them?

I used to live in a country like that. It gets better.
Serious-it probably won't happen in your country. It only really matters what happens in the big countries.
Globalism ftw.

Yes it won't happen because you can't sell a Mario, Zelda or a Pokemon game to kids who don't speak English.
| Pyro as Bill said: I usually get banned for threads like these but now that we have actual data I should be OK. Switch is matching PS4 in what is supposed to be PS4's peak year and we haven't even started with price cuts, bundles and Nintendo's expanded audience stuff yet. Switch's life is going to copy X360. It will go from premium 'hardcore' nintendo-home console (Gamecube/WiiU) and over time will turn into an ultra casual Kinect-ish home/hh console (Wii/DS). Netflix and Youtube for Switch will signal Playstation's demise(ala mass market PS2-DVD). (Probably the last thing to happen). Whether people want to admit it or not, Nintendo are selling a HOME console at $300 with no software included and HOME console games at full price, something even the Wii couldn't manage. Nintendo is repeating Wii but doing it properly this time. They've bumped the price up, unbundled Wii Sports and aren't interested in the cazualz......just yet. Instead they've made Wii Boxing into a good game (ARMS) and they're selling it for a premium $60 on a $300 home console. Nintendo is waiting for Sony to react before they reveal what the true intention of the IR camera/motion control is. It's GBA-DS v PSP all over again. If Sony tries to react, Nintendo will go full casual mode and it won't matter this time because the console is already established as a 'hardcore' PSP-esque device at $300. When it's at $200 with Switch Sports included it will be obvious to everyone that Sony and the PS5 don't stand a chance. Switch will leave PS4/5 with only the AAA versions of AAA games while Switch gets Nintendo first party (home and hh), full support of indie, upcoming smartphone devs, AA-versions of AAA games and portable AAA games. Sony will only have the AAA versions of AAA games similar to what PC has today. It won't be enough against everything else being portable with (gimped) local multiplayer. PS4 might break records but it will be left turned OFF while Switch gets all the playtime. Switch will go on to become a better non-gaming entertainment piece of hardware that toasts PS4 and rivals Apples/Androids workhorses (all rounders) for movie/TV/music. You heard it here first. |
Switch isn't even matching launch year for PS4 so far. While I believe it will be a much closer and more fair competition between PS4 and Switch than it was with PS4 and XB1, Switch is still going to fall short lifetime. Nintendo has the first party, to give it identity, but it seems to always lack the third party to bring the unit numbers.
But don't worry, I'll wholeheartedly cheer Nintendo on when you come back next year and talk about how amazing the attach rate is.
