Forums - Nintendo - L.A. Noire will cost more on Switch than Ps4 and Xbox One

After Rime, i have no doubt that a) some companies will take a hit so they can have price parity (or simply, low prices), b) a few developers clearly won't suffer the loss (whatever the loss is) and pass it to consumers.

A game here and there isn't the issue, the problem is if the first devs can get away with it, other devs will just do teh same and we'll start seeing that Switch ports are more expensive.

Maybe, but I just find it hard to believe that 16gb cartridges could possibly cost a full ten euros more to manufacture that Bluray disks.

Yeah, because it probably should cost more.

What I don't get is that it will be 4K on PS4 and Xbox, but not the Switch.

The screen is only 720p right? and Im not even sure the switch can output anything at 4k.

It might not be powerfull enough to do a old PS3 game in 4k either, while the Xbox One & PS4 are.

The dock can outpu 4K content but i doubt games can run well at 4K on the Switch.

That's kinda shitty. If this is what the norm on the Switch is gonna be... third party support is screwed.

I'm getting a flashback to me back when it was first brought up that Switch may use carts.

will the digital version be 39.99? no cartridge cost

I'm gettting flashbacks of you being so insistent that the Switch would not have a physical medium.

And one of tge reasons why third parties have a hard time finding sucess is this.Hopefully the price is rectified by launch.

Nintendo could take the price of the cartridge out of their cut, so 3rd party dont have to.

Or atleast a part of it, so its more or less the same 3rd party pay for cartridges, as a dvd for sony/ms.

Then it wouldnt be a viable business decision for Nintendo, assuming their cut is the same as the other two.You could also create a bad habit out of this.

But most importantly, I doubt that this price difference is due to the cartriges.Carts arent as expensive as they once were, and it wpuldnt create a 10 dollars difference between both versions. Not even close to it, especially if the 16 GB cart is being used.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Good question.

It's a bit frustrating to me that we had people in the RE Revelations thread complaining about a lack of a 2nd Cartridge(which is understandable) now complaining about the price of a game on Switch.

If you're a third party you can't win on Switch. More expensive medium, more expensive to publish, framerate or graphical downgrades, etc. It's clear some ports are better than others, and Nintendo fans will gravitate to some companies. But theyre will always be side effects, and asking for companies to lose some profit because of a specific platforms quirks isnt fair. Just make a good effort and the port is fine by me. Just wish RER was a cart too

This is a flash chip, not an old school cart.  I assure you the difference between a high capacity blue ray and a MROM chip is not $10.  Even the 32 gig isn't.   Even if we buy into the line companies put out that there's no good margins in flash drives (mostly bs btw, they wouldn't be in the business if the money wasn't there), I would still peg the actual cost of a 32 gig Game Card at $5, I believe $3 over a PS4 blue ray disc.  The specific $10 figure is frankly a matter of habit on the part of devs as well as capitalizing on the fact people think carts=super expensive.  Also, likely bracing for lower sales vs PS4, wanting bigger margins to offset lower volume.   Of course, this move guarantees lower volume so yeah, self fulfilling prophecy thinking.
