Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: We never expected the Switch to sell this much

The cost of shipping is getting more expensive again. Hopefully it eventually forces companies to revisit this overseas production model and move some production back to North America.

The cost of shipping is getting more expensive?

The problem with that is just how expensive it is to produce things in the USA.

That is until the machines take all the jobs...
And who does that help, not really the average resident, I can tell you that much?

I for one look forward to the day when the whole wolrd is automated, and humans are antiquated.

If that's true, how come the Switch is so scarce in Japan? I mean, they don't have to ship out units anywhere for their local market and yet we are seeing super crazy long lines at retail stores and even a lottery to buy the system in Japan. I think they are still holding on units for the holiday season.

Boats are pretty slow.

But the major shortage is at japan. It is very close to the factories, dont?Shipping wouldnt be a big problem for japan, right?

And apparently a lot of people too!

Pocky Lover Boy!

Boats are really slow for one.

Increasing the output of a factoryitself isn't hard. Its managing all the supply chains required to do so that is, without increasing the cost. Remember they are selling a 300$ product, not a 1000 ipad.

The numbers did exceed their initial estimates so it does make sense

Really hope they can fix the shortages soon though :/

Yeah, it's pretty evident that they didn't expect it to sell so well.

That's the Baltic Dry Index, an index that tracks the cost of shipping dry goods in bulk.

I'm guessing that part of the increase in the costs of shipping was due to that outright crash in shipping prices just two years ago.
