Not really. I'm saying that some people don't need "nostalgia glasses", i.e. they prefer modern games, while others do, i.e. they prefer retro games.

This isn't about what you prefer, this is about what is better.  By claiming a 20 year old game is better, you are spitting on the countless hours and dedication of game developers over the last 20 years.  Every genre has been improved upon, and new technologies has opened the doors to countless possibilities.  I will always admire and respect older games, but I'm honest enough to admit when a game has been dethroned.

And by ignoring older games, you're spitting on the countless hours and dedication of game developers over the previous years.

It is number 1. No doubt about it. Fact.

it's a garbage list tho. Fact

Whatever you believe about the list is irrelevant to the topic: BotW is number 1.

Wrong. Objectivity does not exist in art. Furthermore, your favorite games ARE the best games of all time - just to you though.

Think about it. If your favorite film is American History X but you think the best movie is Citizen Kane, then the movie that accomplished it's intent the most is the one that captivated your attention and mindshare enough to become your favorite movie. Therefore, even if it has more flaws than the latter, it also accomplishes it's goal more, and those flaws don't stand in the way of making it the movie that takes up your mindshare the most - so it would be the best movie despite it's flaws.

It's just a bad list because it feels disingenous and/or lacking in substance.

Wrong.  We're not talking about art, we're talking about video-games.

Also, your last sentence makes no sense.  "There is no objectivity but it's a bad list"?

It doesn't matter if you consider it art or not, I never even talked about movies as art, it's an example you could literally change it with any video games. Change those movies with your "favorite game" and your "best game" and literally nothing changes. Just because something is a video game doesn't mean there's automatically an objective element to it, hell that doesn't even make sense .... video games are probably the 2nd most subjective medium because of the player interaction they require.

Yeah, it's a bad list ... in MY OPINION. I know, mindblown!

You don't get it, countless hours went into the development of the apple 2, does that mean an apple 2 is better than the latest mac? Games are constantly being improved upon, we don't just count the hours of dedication of the developers that created super mario bros, but the hours of dedication that went into every game that came before it.

Look, i get it.  Being told your favorite game isn't as good as another game is hard to accept.  That's just human nature.  And it's hard to overcome it, but it's also a part of maturity.  I grew up in the 90's, I loved my SNES, N64/PS1 etc.  But I have moved on, and I enjoy seeing how far gaming has come in the last 20 years.

Don't you think this all is contradictory when Tetris, a game from 1984, shows up as the seventh best game in their list? There's certainly a base to question choices made in this list. Even what you're suggesting point at mistakes in their lists.

"Better" is subjective. So yeah, depending on who you ask, it can be better.

You don't think there is an objective element to video-games?  An interactive medium that normally requires functional controls and a working interface in order for the player to accomplish goals?  Okay.

I can't tell if I genuinely didn't explain it well, or if you're purposefully imrepresenting my point.

There is objectivity to how you make a game. "This game has 30fps" "This game has 60fps" "This game has no A-button support" etc. But how you percieve it? Nah, entirely subjective.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe I said it was a perfect list.  Frankly I would have preferred they used "puyo puyo tetis" as that is a better version of the game.  But I do agree there are faults in the list, However GTAV, the last of us, zelda botw, and dark souls are the probably the best games (or close to the best games) out there right now, so it's nice to see them so high on their list.
