Forums - Politics - World gone mad: College Tells Fat Students Not to Lose the Weight - Could Be 'Dangerous'

Bradley University is telling fat people not to lose weight because it could be “dangerous,” according to a project developed by the school’s Women’s Studies Program.

The “Body Project,” created to fight against “fatism” and “weight discrimination,” essentially tells students just that — don’t lose weight because it could be “dangerous” and cause an “increased risk of death.”

In their section on “The Truth about Fat and Health,” feminist professors argue that weight loss methods such as dieting and exercise “pose serious health risks” and that “the cure for obesity [is] worse than the condition itself.”

The article goes on to say that the project disregards all scientific studies that links obesity with poor health.

Personally, if I was fat, I would rather be told the truth that it's bad for my health than be told there's no problem witht that just to make me feel better emotionally.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Atrocious if true.

What is the consensus on this site? Why is the comment section 10^10 grades darker than your normal no-hope-for-humanity corners of the internet?

Edit:

ah I was too quick to jump to conclusions, I assume they based the article on this page alone, which in fact, contains no faulty information:

It also does not contain any information about how being overweight is a health hazard, which is what the issue is.

Considering the two comments after the OP are polar opposite ... i'm not sure what to believe...

... but dang, I don't want to read

Of course losing weight can be dangerous for your health, but being fat isn't good either. People should try to lose weight in a good way (by eating more healthy rather than starving themselves), or never get fat in the first place.

Jeez, what kind of sites do you visit!?
This looks like grade-A nonsense. Why is this site being posted on the front page, unchecked?!

Just looking at the actual Bradley University page (https://bradley.edu/sites/bodyproject/fatism/skinny/) you can clearly read that the aim of the project is to tackle assumption that "weight loss" is the way to go, and the assumptions that come from being fat.

As a medical student and as someone who has lost some weight, I can tell you that weight loss for his own sake can be quite damaging to the body.
In particular healthy eating and exercise is what should actually be promoted, rather than just "be thinner".

The project clearly highlights these aims, yet your site has deemed it better to go with a clickbait article about crazy feminists.
I suggest you actually substantiate your claims and stop running ads for this buffoons on vgchartz

This is kinda common with feminists these days and colleges. "It's okay to be fat". "You're just curvy". Instead of trying to encourage people to lose weight and be healthy, they're trying to normalize obesity and pretend it's okay for ya. They're even trying to change what people's perception of what beauty is. There's a reason why they're called the regressive left....

For fucks sake.

"Risks of diabetes and heart disease were reduced for heavy people who engaged in regular exercise and practiced sound eating EVEN IF THEY DID NOT LOSE WEIGHT."

"Another inaccurate assumption that is commonly made about heavy people is that they must have poor dietary habits and do not engage in physical activity. People who are thin are not automatically healthy because they are thin. Nor is their thinness an automatic indication of good nutrition and adequate exercise. Moreover, with good nutrition and exercise one may be heavy and still be fit and enjoy good health. A growing number of scientists agree that weight is not the determining factor for poor health, poor nutrition and lack of physical activity are. This is true whether an individual is heavy or thin. Nevertheless, health insurance is denied to many large people because of their size. If health coverage is granted, they are often forced to pay higher premiums compared to those of average weight."

Strange, the article clams that these evil feminists argue against exercise yet the section quite clearly links good, regular exercise to good health.

And that's just one of many wrongs in the article.

Clickbait article is clickbait.
