It was really smart of SE to make two versions. The chances of people double dipping in the future has increased a ton with this tactic.

Actually with digital the PS4 version is ahead of the 3DS one, according to Square Enix president and CEO Yosuke Matsuda.
Wonder how close to 4m it is by now in japan? (with digital factored in).

I'm hoping that they release the Japanese switch version in the holiday season and give it to us at the same time in the west in 2018.

you do know the 3ds can download games too? are you comparing both ps4 retail and digital against 3ds retail only????

That was their plan but looking at their expectation? The 3DS version is seriously lagging behind and they are expecting more while PS4 is above their expectation.
So far I won't call that a smart move because looking at the sales at the moment the fanbase is split between two version. As they have said so far its meeting their low end of their expectation.
It will all depend on the legs of both version especially 3DS because of the install base and the pending Switch version.
Good hold for PS4.

Even with digital sales for the 3DS included, the digital sales on the PS4 are much higher, putting the PS4 ahead of the 3DS sales.
The most amazing thing is Splatoon 2 will be Nintendo 1st to reach 1 million in retail only in Japan.....it took ps4 with dragon quest with over 5 million system to get its 1st one million seller in retail only........Switch about to get it in its 5th month its 1st one million retail seller by time it reach the same amount of time the PS$ was on the market in Japan, it will have more one million sellers than PS4

where the link, because only info I seen from Square is the sell through rate was higher for ps4 because ps4 have 5 million sellers, and there are over 1 million owners of dragon quest......compared to 20 million 3ds with only 1.5 million people owning the game, so the 3ds have a lower ratio.......but I would like to see the article where it says that ps4 digital and retail pass the 3ds digital and retail

Is production up or are they just allocating Japan a higher percentage of switches that previously would have went to other regions? NPD data and the availability in europe would suggest this is likely.

SE said ps4 version selling better and we all know ps4,digital is a lot higher then 3DS.
