Here's the way I see it.
North Korea has always thrown out these threats under pass presidents, and what these presidents have done is provide financial relief. Clinton, Bush, and Obama are all guilty in this. However, Trump appears to not be interested in providing financial help to North Korea, and actually sees their threat as one to be taken seriously.
What people are freaking out about is mainly North Korea's program has grown and it is now actually seen as a threat under the current presidency when it comes to their nuclear program. North Korea has reached the point where while their bombs may not be TOO powerful, they can reach us, and that's all that matters. This should be taken seriously, and luckily, I believe it is.
China is starting to take note, and I think they're slowly coming to our side. What message would China get if North Korea bombed the USA if they didn't get their way? The answer, it's not a good one. Russia already has stopped allowing North Korean workers into the country and lowered trade with them, while China, who has never approved any sanctions put in place, voted to approve restrictions of trade for North Korea.
There's multiple things that could happen.
1. North Korea could bomb Guam, causing China to turn their back on them and America bombing/nuking the ever living hell out of North Korea justifiably. People would be able to see nuclear war in a smaller scale, and I think it would encourage preventing nuclear weapons even further. Also China and the UN would be on America's side, which means WW3 would not break out. Millions would die, but North Korea would be a threat no more.
2. North Korea backs off, but sanctions take a toll on their economy. The people may start to see through it, and cause a revolution (highly doubt this scenario).
3. America strikes first. This is the scenario that I know will NOT happen, mainly cause Mad Dog wouldn't let it happen. This would potentially cause WW3, but I don't see it happening. This is just one very improbable scenario.
And lastly, people don't talk about this, but I think this will happen.
4. China sees the threat. They see North Korea and Kim as a nuisance and danger to not only the world, but to their interest. Trying to stop Kim from going any further, a coup de tat ensues, taking Kim out and replacing it with a puppet government similar to China's own. The military would need to get involved, but seeing as how most Koreans not named Kim Jong In are treated, this could very well be reality.
I hope this sheds some light on the subject.
And PS, all those who are comparing Trump to Kim and are bashing him, just stop. This thread is about North Korea, not how much you hate Trump. There's no rational conversation to have with insults, and it's pathetic. Please just focus on the topic at hand and let's try to come together for once instead of throwing useless insults.
