Forums - Politics - Can someone explain North Korea to me?

a little background story. may not be 100% accurate.

Korea was under Japan rule for awhile, and during WWII the Soviets joined the allies and declared war on Japan, and sent troops in Korea to liberate them. The US made the 36 parallel dividing Korea into two, North with the Soviets, and South with the US. The Soviets agreed to do this.

During the cold war, around 1950, N. Korea invaded S. Korea with limited support from the Soviet Union. The United Nations and the US intervened and force North Korea to do a tactical retreat, then China entered and push the UN forces back behind the 36 parallel line, and it has been a deadlock ever since.

Since then there has been a number of sanctions over the years by the EU, UN, US, South Korea, and Japan. Kinda unfair that they're only threatening the US when several other countries is sanctioning them. lol.

I barely ever look at the news as some of you know,  besides yahoo news.

I continue to see Guam is on high alert and North Korea is crazy,  missiles,  etc.

But why? What is the goal here? Most wars and rumors of wars usually have a reason.  I see no motivation for any of this.  Besides being close to China I really do not even see why America even takes notice of them.

Anyone have a decent explanation?

Here you go. I hope video helps understands North Korea's reasoning behind it's goals.

If you wish to skip report and trump bashing (well deserved by the way) to the explanation you seek, just go to minute 24:17 of the video.

They're mainly threatening them to stay in the spotlight. The risk of them bombing Guam is very low, unless the US starts an invasion. It's mainly used as a deterrent.

Create external threat to divert attention from interal problems.

Trump and Un both remind me of Eric Cartman from South Park. Angry, stupid, and fat.

The difference is the only reason one is in power is because of birthright, otherwise he wouldn't be there... The other guy was voted into power by the people of his country, and he was selected out of dozens of candidates contesting in some kind of reality TV show they called "the primaries" where each candidate had to prove how loud and idiotic they were in order to win the support of the voters.

Isn't the fact that I actually had to check if he really said that quite worrisome?

Amen, it sounded too idiotic to be true but in the back of my mind, it also seemed like a real tweet from trumpet. I would not put it pass him

Kim Jong Un actually killed those who slightly oppose him or counts as a threat. His brother and Uncle was assassinated/death sentenced, along with the half of the originals generals (which is more than 20 originally). He is a cliche fat villian, but not really that smart while being very aggressive =P

While Trump is one of the most ridiculous and uncouth western leaders of this century, comparing him to Kim is one of the reasons why even many left wing-leaning people don't take the left wing seriously anymore.

About NK, China, being the very one that still keeps it afloat, is the only nation that could make Kim's regime crumple, without the need to use any weapon, but it refrains from doing it for two reasons: whenever Kim falls, NK already horrible economy will be seriously furtherly shaken, possibly causing a famine that could claim more lives than a war, and China doesn't want to be blamed for that, furthermore the economic disaster would push many Northern Koreans to become refugees, and while South Korea and USA would accept many of them, particularly those that already have relatives there, SK couldn't take them all because it's a small country, and USA wouldn't want to do it, as they already take a lot of immigrants from all over the world, and a sudden spike would put in a crisis their immigration system, EU would be a destination choosen only by a small minority and so the vast majority could only go to China.

1. Stop using Yahoo!

2. It's the American 'President' who is crazy as well..and you're right. China will deal with him, not the US. Trump is just having a fever dream about how great it would be to pretend risking WW3.

3. Trump and Kin Yong Un are one of a kind...both are big men children bluffing all of the time.
