Forums - PC - Noctua fans, still the best

I'm going to be swapping out my Cooler Master 212 Evo for an AIO, and probably upgrading my EVGA 1070 FTW to have its own AIO with the upgrade kit in the next year or so. To be fair, this is mostly for aesthetic reasons, since the 212 is fucking ugly. But then again, since I'm not exactly rocking a cutting edge PC, and my graphics card only has to support a couple of 1080p monitors, so I'm not really concerned about the performance either. I

I picked up some NZXT fans to go with my case (4 total) to keep the build consistent, and don't really see a reason to "upgrade" to Noctua. You're only talking about 1-2 degrees of performance when you're going above bargain level fans, and unless you're at risk of thermal throttling, you're not going to see any meaningful gains of performance.

It's not only about temp, but also noise and longevity. Noctua fans are known for its excellent performance while being a lot quieter than the competing options.

Please excuse my bad English.

First and foremost, I really haven't gotten into the nitty gritty of fans. I got a good deal on an NZXT S340 ellite + hue+ AER fan package. Like I said, I'm not exactly pushing the limits of gaming, so my fans aren't anywhere near running at 100% ever from what I've seen. They're good enough for me.

Now, I can't speak for longevity, but based on quick browse on newegg, it appears to me that noctua fans come at a premium compared to the competition, and according to the specs of fans from the likes of bequiet, corsair, thermaltake etc, are cheaper, quieter, and not beige.

Also,  it might be worth noting that the black "industrial" ones are much louder and $5 more expensive than the beige "consumer" ones, (http://noctua.at/en/products/fan) so you actually have to pay an even bigger premium to not have the beige.

I don't have a problem with the fan colors, to be honest. They're inside a case with no window, so I only see them when I clean the case or change something.

That said, never, ever believe what a product description says of a fan, because most of the time it's false. For example, the noise rating they use is ridiculously low, even lower than what you can actually measure with the background noise (around 30 dB).

Yeah, i got a slab of tempured glass on mine, so the beige would stick out. That's a matter of preference though.

Fair point on the product descriptions. Like I said, I haven't done the research, or even read what others have written in comparison. All I know is that they do the job for me.

Of course.

out of curiosity, since you've piqued it, could you suggest any articles or videos that compares noctua fans to others that shows what all of the fuss is about?

That's a hard question, because not many sites bother to test "simple" fans. There are some sites that make a round up test every now and then, and that's the best you can get nowadays.

Overclockers.com post some reviews and round ups sometimes: http://www.overclockers.com/category/reviews/cooling-reviews/

Hardware.info only has a couple of articles, and both are round ups, but their testing methodogy is good: https://us.hardware.info/category/23/case-fans

I'm actually looking into grabbing some black Noctua fans sometime this week, though I'm more after static pressure ones.

For coolers. They are the bomb.

Yea but dem color schemes tho

The colour scheme of the fans actually suits my rig. Army Greens/Browns. Haha

They also made a grey variant as well.

I have almost $400 worth of Noctua fans in my main rig alone.

...You could say I am a fan.

.......................

Anyway, holy hell!!!!!!!!!!  Nearly $400 on fans?  What kind of rig do you have?

To be fair, that is in AUD. The fans were about $35-$49 a pop depending on fan. (I have a mix of 120mm NF-A12x15's and NF-P12 PWN).

Two fans on the front, two fans next to the hard drives, One fan on the bottom next to the PSU, two fans on the side-window, one fan on the back, two fans on the Radiator for 10x fans all up.

The great thing about having so many fans is you don't need to ramp them up in RPM which creates allot of noise, even during a 45'C-50'C (113'C - 122'F) Australian summer day.

The only fan that gets noisy is the motherboard fans during boot and the GPU in something intensive.

Yea but to truly be pcmr worthy, they need to have rgb leds

Glad I am not the only one who despises their rig looking like a Christmas Tree...

I am also a fan of Arctic Cooling Fans. Sadly they don't have them in stock here anymore. But they used to have a 6 year warranty. Performed well... And were relatively cheap.
If I was to build a white-themed build... Those are the fans I would get. (I advise not doing so. Dust makes white rigs look ugly very quickly. Haha)

Love their thermal paste and thermal paste remover too. - Been using Arctic Silver thermal paste since the late 90's/early 2000's.

I have a few Phanteks 140mm fans in my PC and they perform decently. They've replaced the already quite good ones preinstalled with my case (Define R5) and temperatures are down a couple of degrees or more at load. I got a pack of three of two SP and one XP from Ebay for under £6, which is pretty much a steal. They were OEM ones mind..

Noctua are good, but I wouldn't put those brown fans anywhere near my PC lol. The grey ones are okay though.
