out of curiosity, since you've piqued it, could you suggest any articles or videos that compares noctua fans to others that shows what all of the fuss is about?

That's a hard question, because not many sites bother to test "simple" fans. There are some sites that make a round up test every now and then, and that's the best you can get nowadays.
