Forums - Nintendo - Metroid: Samus Returns' Fusion Mode Is Amiibo Exclusive

Not a big deal. Most people will get the amiibos for collecting anyway, not for just an extra costume.

Pretty much, it's hard mode with a different costume I remember Prime did this on GC with the GBA, link cable and Fusion.

Shitty practice. Hope the base game isn't affected by this and if I want a harder mode, I'll make it myself.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Paid DLC with Nintendo at least comes with shelf decoration. Let's not pretend that this isint paid dlc.

This is right up there with some of the worst practices in gaming.

My lord. Nintendo has a nice little toy range. Why do they have to go and spoil it with this

Fuck paid DLC. I was fine with unlocking stuff that can be unlocked with enough skill in the game, but this is bullshit.

Let's not even mention the fact that I can't do this without buying an NFC reader for my regular DS XL.

If they want to do DLC then, sure whatever. But locking content behind Amiibo's is stupid. It costs more and it runs out of stock.

This isn't just Day One DLC. It's Day One DLC that may be difficult to get hold of and costs more because you have to buy a bit of plastic that you might not want at all.

Not that a difficulty level should be Day One DLC anyway.

Guys, please! It's just a skin. This is nothing to go crazy about and it's hardly possible to call this 'locked content'. Look at what BotW did with the Story DLC, THAT is content. But this is just a fucking skin. The other unlockables are also unnecessary at all. Extra containers? Who even wants those?

When you realize that they did this to add some bonus while at the same time tried to avoid unbalancing the game and therefeore put useless stuff behind the amiibos, like skins, sound tests and artworks, you'll see that this really isn't an issue at all.

I guess I'll look up the art galleries online then.

Well I don't wanna go too in-depth because I don't wanna know much about the game at all, but from a superficial perspective this definitely looks crappy. "Fusion Mode" doesn't sound like just a skin, it sounds like well, a mode. You're saying there will be a hard mode in the game regardless of the amiibo, is that actually confirmed or what?

Also, "who wants those" lol. I don't know how these extra energy tanks are going to be implemented, but if it's something like not being able to get 100% because you didn't use the amiibo, then I'd definitely want it (the tank, not the amiibo of course). Either way Nintendo is using amiibo in stupid ways.

Hard mode is in the game Fusion mode is just hard mode with a different constume.

It's pricey if you're trying to get all the amiibo content. It should have been any one amiibo unlocks it all. Or any one Samus amiibo unlocks all the Samus content, and the Metroid unlocks it's content.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

The amiibo looks pretty cool. Might buy the game and the amiibo.

I like amiibo, and support it. How they are used in BotW, Smash, Mario Kart, Twilight Princess HD, etc is perfect in my opinion. Nice collectibles with added functionality.

However putting an entire game mode behind it like this is just wrong. Keep it small, and this should be available from with thw Vanilla game. Heck it would even sting less as paid DLC because there won't be supply constrictuons, though it still wouldn't be right.

It also comes "at least" with a much higher price and less availability.

As long as they add an option to buy it digitally (or it does not matter) I don't really care.

Same thing I was thinking.  If Nintendo is  going to put a paywall behind a feature, they should, at the very least, also have it be accessable digitally for everyone that wants it as long as the game is available for purchase.  We all know that these amiibo are probably going to be qucikly hard to find and then eventually impossible to find at retail, making the content locked to these figures gone forever unless you pay scalper/re-seller prices or find some dishonest way to access the content.

I don't even know why Nintendo has to lock features behind amiibo.  People will buy the damn figures even if they didn't do anything as long as they look nice because people like collecting and displaying stuff like that.  They could have just made the figures refill missles or energy and most people would have been fine with that.

I haven't really minded amiibo unlockables until now...since most have just unlocked cosmetic features I didn't care about or easier modes. Not sure what to think of this yet...but having a Fusion skin sounds awesome...and so it's unfortunate there's no way to unlock it in-game.

Kinda reminds me of the Tales of Xillia games, and how most of the costumes were locked away as DLC, when they could all be unlocked as bonuses in the past Tales of titles. At least those were available digitally, so they can't run out...I can already imagine finding one of these Metroid amiibo is going to be a pain.
