Inspired by a neogaf thread I decided that it would be great to see Vgchartz users opinion on this.

Haven't played it. But it should be considering just how big it seems to be and how much it's blowing up

Well i love the game. Its very addictive and its really fun with friends but its not really ad deep or complex as other games like BOTW, Splatoon, and Horizon so i'll say no.

It's early Access so no. If it was a final release then yes but would at best win best multiplayer but not GOTY.

Maybe something like shooter or multiplayer of the year but not GOTY. I mean it's a super fun and popular game and all but it's not something you'd think of when it comes to GOTY.

Overwatch. Game of the Year. 2016.

"Early Access" with microtransactions kind of makes me chuckle a bit.

Anyways, I don't think it will win Game of the Year, but if it did I wouldn't mind, in fact I think I would be pleasantly surprised. Personally I love the game, I don't think it will be my favorite game of the year, but I'm tired of gamers just expecting the GOTY award to be given to storied or "deep" franchises.. When Overwatch won GOTY 2016 I felt it was pretty justified, it might not have the production values of Uncharted 4 but it was so much fun. If PlayerUnknown got GOTY, I think it would show that the criteria is moving from super big budget story games, to games that are simply fun. I think there are games that are better(Zelda and Persona come to mind) though, so I wouldn't mind other singleplayer or multiplayer games winning either.

Not until it's out of early access. So probably never lol

If it comes out of early access this year, the I can see it getting a nomination for goty, not actually winning it. However, the game would probably achieve the best multiplayer award with ease.
