Forums - Nintendo - I'm garbage at ARMS, how do I get better?

No, I'm not being serious.

...though I kinda am. That game is hard, even at a casual level (I mean, I'd assume Medium-level CPUs would be casual) I get my ass handed to me all the time.

Well the game being hard =/= there's no skill involved, infact it means the opposite in this case, the game is hard because you don't have enough experience. This response is cliche as hell, but if you keep losing, that just means you need to git gud. :L

Admittedly the Lv.7 CPUs are cheap since they read your inputs and play really cowardly, but they can be surpassed aswell.

I'm pretty sure he was joking.

As petty as this is, I haven't put in Arms since the day I got it. I just don't like it when Nintendo makes *moving* a difficult part of the game. Playing on a normal controller feels so weird so you pretty much have to use motion controls, I felt like the gyro were overly sensitive, like they only registered movement when I *barely* nudged them to the right, but if i put them to the right with purpose they wouldn't go. Also the guarding is lame because you have to flip the joycons or put them in an x and I kept just putting them on the front sideways facing each other, which I thought made as much sense as flipping them over and doing the same thing, but noooo.

Lift weights. I'm kidding of course, observe your opponents and study what they're doing.

I never said there wasn't skill involved, I said it's impossible to git gud, because at least on my part it seems to be harder than most Nintendo games (which is exactly how OP feels too). Then again, I'm not the game's biggest fan so I'll most likely never git gud at all - I can just get my fighting game fix elsewhere.

Getting good means improving your skills, so to say you can't get good is to say you can't improve your skills. Again though this is false, there are already many who're good at the game, thus it's not impossible.

Play lots of party mode, there are some good players there for you to hone your skills against before moving up to ranked battle. Also Grand Prix mode on level 4 or above offers a great challenge and is good for sharpening your skills. Lastly, accumulate as many coins as possible and spend them unlocking all the different types of Arms, you can then experiment with different load outs and choose what best suits your style.
