Depends. If it's a console I really want, and I know will have games I'll play down the line, then launch. The collector/gaming fanatic in me makes me do it.

If it's a console I'm still unsure of, then I'll get it whenever I'm convinced it will be worth the purchase.

I bought my DS like a couple of months after launch, around may 2005 I believe

I bought my wii at around 11 pm at walmart last year of February, I bought my wii before they could even display it , I think it was being at the right place at the right time

I usually buy as close to launch as possible once I have picked a system to go with. I got the N64 a few months after launch and I got the PS2 about 6 months to a year after launch. I got my PS3 the month after launch.

I think I got my Genesis about 1-2 years after it had come out.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

PS3 i bought 5 months after launch (march 07)

360 i bought 2 years after launch (jan 08)

Wii is 1 1/2 years and counting after launch! I might buy one later on, after price drop.

PSP was in june of 2005

NES - Was born into it
N64 - 2nd Christmas after released
GC - First Christmas after release
Wii - A month after relased because I wasn't able to get one at launch :(.
360 - My brothers birthday 3 months back.

Mostly because I got The Legend of Zelda: Adventures of Link as my first game (along with the duck hunt bundle), and I've bought pretty much every one since. I actually bought The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess when it came out, and didn't buy the wii til later. So many long days of staring at the box forced me to stalk the stores just to get mine.

EDIT: I actually only got the DS because of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit
