Forums - Nintendo - T.Nomura: Kingdom Hearts III on Switch “maybe” possible after the game’s initial launch

The main issue is that despite the power difference, the PS4 and Xbox One are pretty much twins so development on one can easily be done as a afterthought on the other. Especially in a situation like we have with the Xbox One, where it probably won't sell that well so people won't notice performance differences unless they are game breaking.

The Switch could probably be done but it will take additional resources, not only for scaling it back but adapting the various ways the game can be controlled.

Also for a troubled development project like Kingdom Hearts 3, they are probably doing all they can to just get the game out. Adding another platform would probably require a new development team and Nomura is said to be nuts when it comes to the details of the projects he works on leading to delays. KH3 on Switch is unlikely unless they change development leads like FFXV and someone re-works it from the ground up, plus the Switch completed dominates the Japanese gaming market.

A ton of support for switch? With dragon quest?

I mean sure they should..... but the fact they are hesitant to release remastered ps2 games on anything but ps4 says something.....

Dragon Quest X, XI and Heroes I&II

Add to those I am Setsuna, Minna de Wai Wai Spelunker, Lost Sphear, Project Octopath, Seiken Densetsu Collection and Re: Legend, and there's quite a lot of games from Squeenix coming to the Switch, with the caveat that many of them only going to Japan yet.

Yes, it does.

It really doesn't. It is graphically simple, it belongs with games from over 10 years ago.

720p, you say ... ? Oh no, my eyes!!! MY EEEEEYYYYEEEEEES!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Glad you recognize how shit 720P really is.

Thankfully the texture style here wouldn't look terrible in lower resolutions.

Exactly. If the texture work was full of tiny details then the difference would be significant.

As for the lighting, well does Kingdom Hearts have a dynamic day night system?  Like actual passage of time?

I couldn't say. I haven't played it.

Nuvendil said:

If not, you could easily go the Xenoblade Chronicles X route and have shadows that never move and none wouls be the wiser.  And even if the day night cycle exists, wouldn't be the worst thing.  There's lots of ways to approach the optimization, with various pros and cons.  If SE does it, it will be interesting to look at what decisions they make.

One of the reasons why Overwatch could run on a toaster is because allot of details are baked in. And yet, that game, despite being graphically garbage, still looks great.
And Overwatch is the perfect example of a graphically simple game that can scale downwards and still look okay as the artwork is what actually lets it punch above it weight.
Another company excels in doing something similar... That is Nintendo, they make graphically simple games, but with good Art assets that allows its games to  punch above it's weight for the anemic hardware they are typically being run on.

Press should stop bothering devs about the switch ports, we see a thread like this with every third party game.

Then the devs instead of growing a pair of balls go " maibe we do " whem they dont care and then the forum is full of port begging and wishful thinking.

Disagree. Port Begging/Asking about Switch Ports is placing pressure on Developers/Publishers to consider a Switch version.
I think it's a good thing as more gamers get access to more great games.

I played kh 3d on 240p.
Lots of consumers don't care if it has the same visuals, interactive grass(unless it changes the gameplay), the number of particles, or the same texture and rendering resolutions of ps4. The concern is if the game will be on the platform, to play on the go, in the switch form factor.
It would sell better than xbox version. Even launched latter and with downgrade.

My question is: why even bring it up? By giving this noncommittal answer, you've raised the idea of a Switch port. This is why most give the "we have nothing to say on this matter," or other PR answers. Now you've put the idea out there, and people will be mad if it doesn't materialize. Would have been better to ignore the question or only say "We're focusing on the PS4 and Xbox One right now" without mentioning Switch.

Never thought I'd see so many pictures and analyzing of pictures in my life.

You add nothing to Nintendo discussions but bullshit.

Of last-gen consoles to boot.

Another "maybe". They can't say no, and they won't say yes. These "maybes" mean nothing. Just dull PR to answer the constant question of "will it, when will it" that I'm sure they are constantly pestered with.

That said, the switch would make a great home for it. I really enjoyed DDD on the 3ds. Would make thousands of time more sense on the switch than the xb1.

I still find it odd for the xb1/switch/pc etc to get "KH3" but not 1.5, 2.5, 2.8 etc.

At least he didn't default to the "Switch doesn't have enough buttons" excuse.
