WOW. I really thought AMD would price these chips a little bit higher based on Intels pre-pricing, but the rumors held true, mostly. Vega and now Threadripper in August? AMD just keeps throwing punches.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

I wouldn't get my hopes up with Vega but their Ryzen/ThreadRipper/Eypc cpus though...

intel finally getting some competition in server market.

 

Not bad for a "glued together cpu".

"So essentially, AMD has 8 more cores, 16 more threads, delivers 16% more performance than Intel's e5-2699 system and 32% more performance than Intel's "non glued-together" Xeon 8176. AMD's chip does all that while consuming 23% less power than the Xeon e5-2699, and 28% less than the Xeon 8176. Not too shabby. I'll take my CPUs with this kind of glue any day."

Glued together CPU's are junk says Intel? I guess I'll be tossing my Core 2 Quad in the garbage and buying a new all in one chip like Ryzen then...

I was following Ryzen before it was announced. It's a CPU right? How did it stack up to Intel CPUs?

it's a good start compared to their previous effort, although my old i7-4790K is all I need for gaming.

Intel could get even more competition this year in the server market. There's not just Epyc, but also IBMs POWER9 which is supposed to release this fall.

And on the homefront, Intel is getting threatened by the upcoming Ryzen 3 4c/4t Processors in August (probably at 100-150$), which cold be deadly for their i3 and lower-clocked i5 CPUs. Then later this year, we will see the first Raven Ridge CPUs in mobile, hence why they will get called Ryzen Mobile. Even with just one CCX these should take a nice bite on Intels marketshare in the mobile market. Finally end of this year/early next year, the Ryzen refresh with a speedbump from the 14nm LPP+ process which sped up already the RX5xx over the RX4xx series.

All in all, a nasty year for Intel

The 4790k is a beast, but I love my 1700, the system just never slows down.

Most programms are optimized for Intel CPUs, which costs AMD some performance in many applications. But in cases that they are also optimized for Ryzen, they can keep up pretty well with Intel's armada of chips, though the lower clock speeds are holding them back a bit in games

However, Ryzen made having more than 4 Threads affordable to everyone, so on the long run, the 4c/4t Core i5 will be fighting a losing battle against AMDs Ryzen 5, while Ryzen 7 made 8 cores (16 threads) affordable to more than just a few at prices comparable to an Intel Core i7 7700K

Long story short: Ryzen has less clock and slightly less performance than Intel's chips, but offer more cores, more threads and much cheaper prices than their Intel counterparts; with the additional cores also making them more future-proof

Nice! I'm happy with my i5-6600k though so no point switching yet
