7/10, probably being a little too generous but it is the first episode of the season and you can't expect too much at the start of a new season while they lay the groundwork for the story.

I think it was a really solid episode. I mean, it is just a setup for the Season, but whatever, it was an effective one at that.
I don't get how Dragonstone, one of the strongest castles in the Seven Kingdoms was left completely abandoned and no one thought to take it.
I loved cunning Sansa.

hehe, book people complaining about the last couple seasons. I personally think the last couple have been the overall best seasons so far. So the further it gets from the books, the better!

I still enjoyed the last 2 seasons quite a bit, and it's still a great deal better than most TV out there these days. It helps that things are ramping up in the story and good things are finally starting to happen to a lot of the "good guys." Though overall 1-3 and 4 to an extent just seem on another level of quality to me. 1 through 4 were certainly darker and more depressing in many ways but overall had much better writing IMO. Plus to me, the grim nature of the first few seasons better reflects real life and real history.

It's nice to see more of the protagonists finally having things go their way in the later seasons but it's almost at an unrealistic level. Just feels like it's gone a bit too "Hollywood" to me, where the good guys are untouchable and always get their way. You can also almost tell when the show catches up to the books just based on the drop in quality of the writing and the increase in things that make no sense, as Augen explained better than I ever could.. But hey to each their own. Overall it's still highly entertaining for me. The only part of the show for me that have been noticably "bad" are the Sand Snake parts, and some of the scenes with Sam and Gilly, as well as Grey Worm/Missandei that tend to drag.

So far I am liking what I've seen for the season 7 opener.

Seasons 1 and 4 were the best seasons in my opinion, in seasons 2 and 3 the good guys got so unlucky it became unrealistic.  I get that they follow the book a lot closer than later seasons, but that doesn't excuse the issues.  Darker doesn't mean better, seasons 2/3 had plenty of good stuff but they were boring and often didn't advance the plot for several episodes.  Don't get me wrong, I hated season 5, it was just flat out bull shit.  But Augen saying that season 6 was worse than 5 is just untrue.   The door, Battle of the Bastards, and the winds of winter were some of the best episodes of tv, period.

But I agree that the season 7 opener was good.

Explanation in Season 4 - Episode 6 ''The Laws of Gods and Men''

Dragonstone is a stronghold in itself, though not fertile and without any resources to take advantage of. At the beginning of Season 4, Stannis' family had nothing left to eat. That's why no one bothers taking a castle that can't sustain by itself because of the poor resources. And it was only a strategic stronghold to take if you were coming from the East, or else it isn't strategical from a Westerosi standpoint.

Finally watched it, its aires at 2am here so it coincides with everywhere else globally, so I record it then watch after I finish work.
I enjoyed the episode can't help feel they always end too early though :)

Kill-Count: episode 1

Jon Snow - 0
Daenerys - 0
Dragons - 0
White Walkers - 0
Cersei - 0
The Mountain - 0
Arya Stark - 50+

Can't wait to see Aryas story pan out now.

also, 5 people have gave it 1 out of 10!?!? Is that just trolling? I'm going to average each episodes score so not sure whether to include them 1's

Enjoyed it quite a bit. Gave it an 8 for GoT standards, but it was a 9 for GoT premiere standards

They should've developed Euron's character more during the 6th season instead of giving Tyrion needless screen-time just because he's Tyrion.

Giving it a 6/10 because there's just no excuse for such an uneventful episode when it's literally 1 out of 13 left. No it wasn't bad by any means, but way too much of it was boring and it felt like one of the slower premieres to set up a 10 episode season, except we don't have 10 episodes this season.

I think I heard that peter Dinklage made like 1 million dollars last episode, all he did was walk around a bit lol.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing to be fair, I understand they can't really just rush into an All out war but to say we have 5 or 6 (I cant remember if it was 7 or 6 ep season) episodes left in this season they have got to put a lot into these now, i just hope it doesn't seem to rushed to get things done. What was the reason to make it a short season?
