The development of this game got off to a very rocky start due to some key personnel being in over their heads. Heads have rolled at EA over this game already and there will probably be more to follow. They're looking to change some development processes to be more like the DICE crew's work processes but that might require a shift in the makeup the development to make it happen.

This game might turn out great but the E3 presentation was a whole lot of makeup on a pig. That's not a lot of time considering they're aiming for a fall 2018 release. You can expect MS timed exclusive content for Anthem in response to Sony's deal with Destiny.

Bioware and EA are lying about which studio is heading up develpment on this game

They're lying about how long they've been working on this game

MS, who has spent remarkably little lately on game marketing, 3rd party exclusive content, etc, paid TENS of millions just to have them announce this....without even a breaths mention of a partnership, exclusive content, timed exclusive, first on Xbox, or anything?

Oh the game was completely broken a few weeks before E3, but a few people from DICE got the game running well enough for a 7 minute demo, when other developers take months of time just preparing a 5 minute demo for E3

I haven't seen anything about EA claiming this game's lead development team is in Edmonton. Also it seems suspicious considering how many positions they're now hiring at Bioware Austin specifically to work on the development of Anthem. Just because many of the leads are in Edmonton doesn't mean the majority of the development team aren't in Austin. As of right now, the majority of the development team is in Austin, and it's been that way for over a year. Whether this gets pulled to Edmonton to get fixed.

As for that "five years". Yes, it's been in concept development for years now. By that same metric, Destiny was in development for over a decade. Many games exist as prototypes and concepts for years before they get a full development team behind them. That full development team came in well less than five years ago.

Yes, MS Paid EA tens of millions of dollars to get this into their E3 presentation along with other things. I don't know what else to tell you. You'll see those exclusive announcements coming. I personally know of many different times deals like this have happened from both MS and Sony, so I'm not so sure why this is surprising to you.

As for those DICE people, it was mainly people that had a much more intimate knowledge of the frostbite engine since the majority of Anthem's development team hadn't had expeirence with it before. I don't know why you think it sound so ridiculous that people that more or less developed and maintain the engine are able to get much more out of it in a short time frame. I've personally seen developers far more talented than I'll ever be personally churn out the back-of-the box feature of a video game in less than a month. There are extremely talented, knowledgable people at EA who can get great work done quickly.

Again, I don't care if you don't want to believe me.

i saw some stream data issues like texture popping... so, it shows that although looking good, it also looks like a game from this generation. i don't get it either. i might get it if they aren't doing destiny/division style of DLC bullsh*t.

I personally expect something similar to Xenoblade X. Similar open world RPG concept.

But more detailed graphics, and more loading times than X. A long delay. An underwhelming, yet still satisfactory story.

It won't look near as good as the demo footage. But based on everything else it'll be a solid game methinks.



I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

It looks really good from what I've seen so far, but I'm gonna wait to see some gameplay that is not scripted before I make a definitive decision.

Online multiplayer is not in and of itself a bad thing. However, making an entire game require online when it could have been easily designed to where it could be played offline is where I have an issue. I see where you're coming from, but I disagree. If I play an online game for 5 years and then the servers are shut down, well, the time I spent playing the game doesn't just vanish. I still have all those memories of all the unique experiences and events I had in the game world, plus the good times I spent with the people I met in the game and my friends IRL. I think of it kind of like owning a pet. Yes, the pet has a limited lifespan, and is probably going to die before you do, but the experiences you shared together will stay with you long after it's gone. I'm not going to say, "I won't adopt this dog, because I know it's going to die some day." 

OT: I think people are suspicious because it looks as good as Horizon while being a multiplatform game. Generally you don't see such impressive visuals from third parties, presumably on account of the fact that they're developing for multiple systems.

So it must be a lie because you don't want to believe it? I can't tell you what the majority of BioWare Edmonton has been working on for the past 4-5 years, but i can tell you that it's not Anthem. This game hasn't been in development for 4-5 years either. Nowhere close to that.

Online-only fundamentally changes the relationship between product and consumer (so does digital, but that's for another topic). It used to be, and still is for most titles, that when you bought a game you bought it knowing you would be able to continue playing it indefinitely. I've been able to enjoy my NES games for nearly 30 years, and will be able to continue enjoying them for decades to come. Meanwhile, an online-only game has an artificially-imposed expiration date at some point in its life and it is utterly dependent on continued support from the publisher. Once they pull the plug on the game, that's it. Nobody gets to play it anymore, ever. One of these days, your Destiny disc will be a $60 coaster.

That's why I object to online-only games. If I'm going to invest money into a game, it's with the expectation that I'll be able to keep playing it for as long as I live.
