Satoru Iwata 1959-2015

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata passed ago two years ago today. Iwata lost the fight to bile duct cancer on July 11, 2015.

With Iwata’s contributions to Nintendo and the gaming industry as a whole, we should take a moment to recognize and reflect on his importance. He wasn’t your typical president having originally started out as a game developer. Iwata kept coding until he was 40, and helped Smash Bros. Melee get out on time. He was instrumental in the hugely successful Wii and DS. And really, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks Iwata-San for everything you did and the gamers will never forget you.

What really sucks is that he's not here to see the blossoming success of his last, late great device. That, more than anything is really frustrating to me.

2 days after my birthday. Poor guy.

The man may no longer be with us. But his legend and legacy lives on!

I remember being devastated when I heard the news. Even reading this thread has me a little misty-eyed.

He seemed like a genuinely good man who most certainly brought a lot of joy to video game fans.

Rest in peace.

Rest in peace Iwata, knowing that your work, legacy, and your memory will live on

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

My thoughts exactly! Some are attributing Switch's success to Kimishima but he's just following the plan Iwata laid out.

And 2 days before mine, this was definitely the worst gift we've ever gotten. =(

I remember beating EarthBound literally 3 days right before he died.

The ending credits when it says "I'll miss you" hit harder than intended. :(

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Absolutely great Did you know gaming about the man, really is a great watch if you have 20 mins.
