Too complicated for casuals, yes.

I've been playing games since the 80's, maybe I'm just getting old but I feel adding the extra shoulder buttons was a step too far.

You might want to try out PC then. So far keyboards have no shoulder buttons at all.

I think you gotta play some more games that utilize all the shoulder buttons and get used to them. That said, despite years of using them my brain still doesn't like the idea of pressing both shoulder buttons on the same side of the controller at the same time (or maybe it's just the left side for me).

I play games on PC as well, they have even more buttons. I use the 360 controller on PC these days, I don't mind sacraficing accuracy for comfort.

God no game should ever make you press R1 and R2 or L1 and L2 at the same time. Most people hold the controller with just 1 finger for each side.

My one and only quibble with Flinthook was Tribute's unwillingness to let people rebind controls. L1/LB is the 'aim anywhere without moving' button & L2/LT is the 'slow down time to aim better' button. Oh yeah, R1/RB isn't used for anything. =/

Windlands does that in VR. R2 and L2 make you shoot out a line, R1, L1 to change the length. I can't get used to it since I start with my index fingers on R2/L2 then somehow have to swap fingers without releasing R2/L2 to be able to build up speed. Using my middle fingers for R2 and L2 doesn't feel right.

Other than that the controllers are fine for me since I play almost every day. (I do remember some uncomfortable finger gymnastics in BotW on Switch and FRN on WiiU) Some games are hard to pick back up again, not remembering all the controls. Fot my wife who only plays on console a couple times a year, Siberia 3 controls were very confusing. Too many actions involving diferent ways to use too many buttons, just to control an adventure game. It doesn't make it more immersive to map out movements in detail, only more annoying. Just a simple click on a thing that opens and closes is sufficient, not hold one button down while mimicking the turn with one of the analog sticks.

One thing I'm glad that's gone is the pressure sensitive face buttons. The difference between half a press and full press down for some actions (mgs games) was a step too far. Using it for acceleration was even worse.

We need 6 face buttons, and all triggers to be analog.
Oh and another set of triggers on top, or below the current set would do nicely.

Is it really the fault of the buttons. Or that the way Nintendo setup the functions for the button can easily be forgotten/confused. The weapon controls are spread across a lot of stuff. VS it being in one setup.

Something like this?
