Forums - Sales - Blu-rays sale percentage tracking

Huge Avatar sales.  I saw that a torrent of a 10+gb ripped blu-ray file broke blu-ray piracy records.  ZOMG, ready?: 200,000 downloads, mostly in the UK and Australia where the disc hadn't been released yet.  Didn't even make a dent.

Although I probably couldnt find the reports now, I have heard that DD is only at about 0.8% of the market.  Which is basically insignificant.

Here are last weeks numbers a week late due to me being busy with work

Here are the numbers for week ending 5/2/2010

Last weeks numbers were pretty decent, although I had hoped the Avatar craze would have a better second week than this.  Top 20 was still pretty good though despite only having 18 out of 20 titles with blu-ray counterparts.

Blu-ray Ratio  15:85

Top 20 Blu-ray Ratio   32:68

Top 20

When big titles are released, you see spikes, but other wise based on that graph it seems like blu-ray isn't gaining steam since last year.

Given I bet the top 20 ratio has been increasing.

that graph isn't for blu-ray it's for total sales.  Blu-ray is up 115% for the week.

edit: as i posted this the new week came up with sales only up 30%.  If it wasn't for avatar it might barely be up at all.  It will probably still steadily rise though.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Here are the numbers from for week ending 5/9/2010

Blu-ray continued its slip back down to reality this week with another poor showing, Top 20 Ratio only looks decent because Avatar is stll selling well.  18 out of Top 20 had a blu-ray counterpart this week.

Blu-ray Ratio 12:88

Top 20 Blu-ray Ratio  22:78

Yes that is correct,  The chart is for total sales.   BLu-ray is doing alright, it is up alot over last yar, but it needs to start doing much better IMO

Sorry about that somewhat misread the chart. Ya it is doing much better from the looks of it, but not really good for a format replacement.

yea that is still a sign that blu-ray has ways to go. 1 movie made it go from 22, to 15, to 12% of sales. It's almost like a lot of blu-ray owners are still primarily buying DVDs except for a few movies that look really nice in HD.

Yeah, its about a year behind what DVD was doing vs VHS. Problem is when comparing the 2 adoption rates DVD really started to take off at this point in its adoption,  blu-ray is starting to lag behind alot.

The last 2 weeks info should be up tomorrow, just trying to figure out the new form design and how to post and such
