It seems DVD will still be here for a long time hahahaha

Well the Movie industry still hsa a few tricks up their sleeve they can pull.   Like start to delay the DVD releases.  Thatl can quickly start to move people away from DVD.

They could... and probably already WOULD if it wasn't for the times.

If they were the Clinton years they'd probably be forcing people over left and right... but with the economic downturn... not the time to be messing with your cash cow.

Agreed,  there is always a little backlash that follows a move like this,  and the decreased sales would hurt Sony more than the removing of DVD support would help.   So thy will stick it out until the marketshare rises a little more by the end of the year and we may start to see a drastic move hear and there.  But I still do expect a few blockbuster titles this year to have Blu-ray exclusive releases, with the DVD release coming weeks later.

Here are the numbers for week ending 01/31/10

Another poor showing from Blu-ray, the ratio was 11:89.  These numbers should be better, especially considering the amount of blu-ray players sold over the holiday season.  Although everything was up YoY, so its noice to see this market doing better.  Maybe its because I havent bought a movie 4 weeks.

Top 20 Sellers

Sony pictures is making a hell of alot of money..

These last few weeks for blu-ray have been quite pathetic, I know its the down season and all. And its even up a decent amoount over last year. But these numbers should be better and they arent.

What was last years %... if it was only 8% this week and its up YoY and DVD is down YoY... man.

Thats about what it was but that was back when they were only counting Top 20 revenue I believe and not total revenue.   So that could be why we are seeing it up YoY.

I think Blu-Ray releases really need to come down in price. Everyone I know, even with HDTVs, still buys more DVDs than Blu-Rays. Seeing as Blu-Rays are still so expensive, I haven't bought a film in a while (I'm not going to buy DVD just to repurchase when Blu-Ray comes down in price).

Best buy just in their weekly ad had a few Blu-rays for $17,  a few were only a couple weeks old.  Also  most new releases are only about $22 at Best Buy,   Which is what DVD new releases used to beabout 3 years ago.   So they are cheap.
