Forums - Gaming - The libraries set in stone?

What you see is what you will get? A simple enough question to ask I suppose, but has anyone really considered the possibility that the answer is yes. Yes you know what all the major exclusives are for this year. Yes you know all the major multiple platform games. Yes there are no real surprises to be had. Just delays and new info on games we knew would be coming this year.

The month is April, and the previous three months have been a barren wasteland of new game announcements. A few bubbles came to the surface, but the surface of the pool is serene.  Time is only flowing against hope the more time we spend waiting the less likely anything is going to come from the depths to flesh out our gaming enjoyment this year. We have nine months left in the year. The first three months haven't been very fruitful. One perhaps two games for each platform worth noticing.

I think most of us expected more in the way of new announcments by now. Most especially given that the PS3 and the Wii are now in their second years, and the 360 is in its third. Yet we basically have the exact same libararies we started the year out with. With only a few minor alterations. So does anyone expect this to change any time soon. Unless new major games are announced now or in the near future it isn't very likely they will show up before the end of the year.

Please keep this thread about future prospects of major games announcements for this year. I think we all already know where the year stands at this particular point. That isn't really the question. I am just pointing out that we have basically gotten squat as far as major new game announcements go, and the clock is running down on the possibility of getting such for this year.

Microsoft stated again earlier today that it has "a number of other really exciting titles we haven’t announced yet.”

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

They'll hold off on the announcements until E3 now.

@starcraft

Those are rather abstract statements, and commonly made by every console manufacturer. They are dependent on ones own interpretation. Technically the number could be one or a hundred. Exciting could be truly exciting to most gamers, or to a very small minority. Basically you learn nothing from such statements. Worse then that they are always true in retrospect, because they promised nothing really.

@Supposed

The problem with that premise is that while you might consider doing that with one perhaps two titles. The reality is that if you did it for a dozen major titles the consequences would be horrendous. You would have what is referred to as, and pardon my language a massive cluster fuck. No realistically you cannot pull those kind of shenanigans off. Even the benefits of doing so are questionable.

Considering that most of the conventions (especially E3) are large-scale penis measuring contests for these companies for who can announce the most and best new games... I'd agree with Supposed.

It's entirely realistic to think that there are a good number of title announcements forthcoming.  There are a lot of a developers out there and if you think they're all twiddling their thumbs and not hard at work at games you may not know about, you probably need a bit of a reality check.

I reckon there are plenty of games this year and more will be announced.
