I got my 3 & 5 year old a 2DS for Christmas and they have been playing Yoshi's Woolly World, they got so excited when I played the demo last night.

"DAD ITS YOSHI!!!! JUST LIKE OUR GAME!!!!"

So it looks like I HAVE to get this game now.

Guess I have the taste of a 5 year old

(joking, haha)

Yeah, this game will definitely hit it out of the ball park with kids!

For me, I've never played a Yoshi game before. Didn't really start "getting into" Nintendo's franchises and expanding my horizons until the Wii U came out. Yoshi's Woolly World came out so late in the system's life that at that point I had moved on. It looked great but, like Xenoblade Chronicles X, it was way too late into the systems life.

When this game was originally shown back at E3 2017 I kind of rolled my eyes, because it looked almost exactly like Woolly World. The whole "Kirby Yarn" "Yoshi Woolly" "Yoshi Cardboard" thing seemed like it was getting out of control. Now though, it seems like such a great concept that's fairly well thought-out. The game looks really great and the gameplay seems versatile (as in, lots of variety of activities to do). The game flow is also very good, which is surprising considering you are always stopping to aim eggs. The visuals are gorgeous, too.

Plus I always like the collecting aspects in these kind of games, especially if they're easy because it adds more spice to what you're doing. As long as it's not annoyingly implemented (Yooka-Laylee).

Haha don't worry, I was planning on getting it regardless of my little ones wanting it lol

@bolded, in the older titles the target would move so you had to time your throws while this one let's you choose where to move the target which I think is a great addition and will help the flow of the game.

Some will probably say that the moving target gave the game an added challenge but I always just found it annoying.

When you say "target", do you mean the reticle moved and you had to time your throw? Or the enemies? Because if you mean reticle ... that sounds kinda annoying xD. Considering how much egg firing I did at the demo, yeah, having to time your reticle sounds kind of annoying. Plus, I love how the reticent is "3D", as in, your aim is in 3D. Don't know if that was in the prior games or not.

There's a part in the the trailer where the chain between the police officer and the legion "ties" the enemy down. I kind of wonder if there will be a dedicated button where you control how the legion moves and you have to make a circular motion with the joystick in order to "tie" down the enemy, sorta like tying them up.

Yes, the reticle moved. Some might have found it to be a fun challenge but it always felt like an unnecessary chore to me.

I'm pretty sure this is the first one with the "3D" aiming (first time I've ever seen it at least) and I agree, it was a pleasant surprise for me.

It may sound like a simple thing but the ability to freely aim eggs in Crafted World is a huge relief for me, my biggest beef with Woolly World was that despite having a perfectly serviceable left analogue stick they inexplicably kept the dated and annoying moving cursor from the SNES original, and it just felt so out of place in a modern game.

Add in the liberal use of the third dimension to add depth (hardy har) to the gameplay and YCW is looking like a much more interesting game than its Wii U predecessor.

I was kinda lukewarm on this one back when it was revealed at E3 2017 but now I am really looking forward to it.

Same here, it sounds really minor but it's a big deal to me.

Question:

Which games would you recommend for 2 players on the switch?

I stumbled upon a hidden gem called Kingdom Two Crowns recently. It has split screen co-op, and is basically a medieval side-scrolling city-building game. You control the "Monarch", and you ride around on a horse recruiting peasants and collecting money, and you build up your empire. At night, enemies called "Greed" spawn and try and attack your base. What's interesting is that you cannot attack the Greed, but you can drop money on the ground and they will accept it and run off with it.

There is a season cycle as well, going through Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, each with their own wildlife and quirks. It's fairly cheap, and co-op is a blast. If you end up getting this game, I recommend going in blind. There are a lot of game mechanics that are purposefully vague, and much of the fun is in finding out what everything does.

Other recommendations would be Super Mario Party, Overcooked 2, and Snipperclips.
