What about the opposite and Splatoon 3 is announced releasing summer 2019?

Anyway I thinks its probably just about the octo expansion (maybe a mini pre-E3 direct/video focusing on it) and they're just being dramatic.

New multiplayer mode, perhaps? Battle Royale? Presumably it's something that'll be available for or on show at the World Championships.

Wouldn't really shock me since there were only 2 years between Splatoon 1 and 2 as well.

Battle Royale mode sounds plausible the game already has a suitable set up to incorporate it.

"Splat Royale", I expect.

Knowing the Splatoon team it would have a more quirky name than that of even some kind of Squid/Octo reference to it.
