Forums - Sony - For PS4 Pro gamers who might feel discouraged about their purchase after seeing the Xbox One X

I didn't buy a PS4 Pro to play games in their best versions.

I bought a PS4 Pro to play PlayStation games in their best versions.

If I wanted the best versions of multiplatform games, I would have bought a better video card instead of a Pro.

Good point. Well said, but there are still console gamers who don't want a PC.

Why should anyone be disappointed about it because of the XBOX?

The PS4 Pro is the best way to play PlayStation games. The same way the XBOX will be the best way to play most multiplat games.

Good point. It's interesting to see how satisfied many PlayStation gamers are at this juncture in the gen.

I dont see how they could be disappointed. XBX being powerful is great but like Sony said devs will focus on the weakest hardware first. Which is why exclusives are important here. Sony can push its own devs to push the hardware.

It was obvious MS was going to release a more powerful refresh. I think there are Pro owners who want the most powerful hardware, and Pro owners who are Playstation gamers. The ones who only care about hardware will just pick up an X as well, and the Playstation gamers won't care about the superior hardware of the X because it won't play Uncharted 4 or Gran Turismo 7. I don't think there are many, if any, who are "discouraged" by the X.

I really don't see the issue here. Coming off as neutral as possible, the only two "major" audiences that the Xbox One X will appeal to are the most committed Xbox fanboy and tech geeks both having money to burn. And then you have pockets of people here and there for whatever reasons which I doubt will amount to any significant support. That's not to say I wish doom to the X from a sales point. But if there's any kind of peer pressure, I don't see it being there.

In regards to specs when compared to the PS4 Pro, I just don't see the Xbox One X worth it. I also fathom it being hard for PS4 vanilla owners to upgrade to a Pro depending on your set up and financial situation. The PS4 pro was my first PS4 console. It was a no-brainier pricewise over the vanilla PS4 due to both the extra hard drive space and a slight up-tick in graphics on my 1080p set. Would I have chose the X over the Pro for just a $100 more if I hadn't bought the Pro? Absolutely not because of the 1st/2nd PlayStation support. But for me to buy the Pro or the X for 4K visuals just isn't worth it to me at this point. I implied early that my Pro purchase wasn't about the 4K. So having to buy a new 4K set and compatible a/v receiver would require a huge financial cost that would serve as a "bonus" for the PS4 Pro. Would I buy an X then? Still no. Having to pay $500 on top of buying a new 4K set and a new a/v receiver isn't worth the minute upgrade for multi-platform game while there are NO new Microsoft IPs I'm interested in.

The only thing that would make envious of XB1X is if it was running multiplats at higher framerates than the Pro. It doesn't.

I'm a PRO owner, no regrets d: it was never a reason of power that kept me from the Xbox ecosystem. not sure someone would dip into a mid gen refresh anyway if they were on the fence, while cheaper options are on the market.

Has anyone felt discouraged?

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

well we knew scorpio since E3 2016(before ps4pro even release), and everybody knew that it would be more powerful than ps4pro.
Either way, 4k checkerboard is undistinguishable from native 4k(unless you freeze the video and perform a big zoom)
i really dont think there is a rational reason to be disacouraged by their purchase.

Well perhaps if XOX had all the same VR games running at native 90fps or 120fps with higher resolutions and better tracking (free from being targeted to also run on XOS). Yet that seems so far off right now.
