No, we don't need to see the entirety of Splatoon 2 (which is what these directs usually do) before release. Everyone already knows what they're getting, everyone knows what it's like and if anyone is doubtful about the gameplay, the testfires will be there for that. Do we really need to know all the stages, all the weapons, all the specials, the amiibo features, a full tour of the new plaza or what they plan to do post-release? I don't think so, really. |
And? That certainly doesn't show they're against having directs right before launch. Also just checked and the 50 fact thingy for Smash Wii U was also around a month prior to launch.
I think it's kinda dumb to purposely withhold information and reasons to buy a game under the false idea that everyone who would be interested in the game has already decided to get it. Thankfully Nintendo agrees as they pretty much always fully unveil their games except for story spoilers of course.

Possible, especially when you add in Mario Rabbids, though I think at this point we're not gonna see FE Switch until after FE Warriors is out.

Games tease for a while before release. TWP HD was shown off in November as I recall and released in March.

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say here, TPHD only shows that your first sentence isn't true, that game was released 5 or 6 months after announcement. We're already 5 months past the FE Switch announcement, we know it's a 2018 game, and given that it wasn't at E3, most likely a second half 2018 game. Thus they can wait til 2018 to reveal it and still have atleast 6 months to hype it up.

Nintendo just announced that they'll be posting Splatoon 2 videos all throughout the month. This pretty much means no direct then, but we should be getting plenty of new info all the same so I'm still happy with this result!
