Yeah, okay. Again, 1080p is 1920x1080. GT5p does not run at that resolution. Just fucking admit this and we can both move on. Why are you bringing up 480p and 1080i? They are different fucking resolutions that have nothing to do with this conversation. |
1080p means 1080 lines progressively scanned. It's like 480p and 1080i, the term does not strictly define horizontal resolution. I know Microsoft made a big deal about 1080p in the past claiming you can't have a well performing game in such a resolution on neither 360 or PS3.
Sony hailed FullHD (1980x1080) for movies and stated the PS3 supported games in "up to 1080p".
The original confirmation:
"The PlayStation 3 will include BluRay , the high definition DVD technology, and support games in resolutions of up to 1080p, (the highest supported standard on the market.)"
Really what's there to be upset about? Sure I can understand you being upset about the wrong Microsoft statement, but why be upset Gran Turismo 5 Prologue runs in a much higher resolution than any race game runs on the 360?
| Kyros said: "Is he only talking about MS or about Nintendo as well. " Would make sense. Nintendo really releases all of its big franchises in the first 15months. I mean they had to and it definitely was a success. But if people hail Kid Icarus as a big Nintendo title the situation is dire . |
They still have Mario Kart, and we've yet to hear much/anything from Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Disaster, Star Fox, or any of their new IPs, not to mention much about TP games.

Why thank you. Most if not all that I post is reposted on joystiq, katoku etc so we are just getting a head start on the discussion is all. I try to make sure is all game related and current though I may double post sometimes which is fine as the worst that can happen is that it becomes locked. Again thanks |
Ditto. I find your posts very informative as I don't always check all those sites. Thank you for posting them.
Anyway, I think the key factor here is that Sony is still focusing on selling their "It's getting better" mantra while the 360 is selling its "We're awesome today" line. Sony is less apt to talk about its current line-up compared to the 360 because it is one of their weaknesses. However, the 360 is not suddenly losing titles, it's gaining them so I'm not sure how Sony feels Microsoft is losing ground in that area.

1080p is not like 480p or 1080i. 1080i is an interlaced format used by TVs of many different configuations, meaning that TVs of many different resolutions (720p, 1080p, CRT TVs) can display it very differently. 480p is not a high definition format and therefore, is used in both 4:3 and 16:9 formats. Neither one applies to 1080p, a format that is strictly defined as being 1920x1080 resolution when used in a 16:9 format.
From Wikipedia:
1080p is the shorthand name for a category of display resolutions. The number "1080" represents 1,080 lines of vertical resolution,[1] while the letter p stands for progressive scan (meaning the image is not interlaced). 1080p is considered an HDTV video mode. The term usually assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels. This creates a frame resolution of 1920×1080, or 2,073,600 pixels in total. The frame rate in Hertz can be either implied by the context or specified after the letter p, such as 1080p30, meaning 30 Hz.
What does that tell you? If someone decided to make a "1080p" TV in anything other than 16:9, it would have a different resolution. But, and this is a huge BUT, when it is used in 16:9 configuration, it is a 1920x1080 resolution.
The reason I'm upset about this is because this is just one of many blatant lies you constantly spew onto this forum. I don't give a shit how good GT5p looks (and it does look very good), I only give a shit about how you constantly twist the truth to fit whatever Sony propoganda you feel like vomiting onto the board at the moment.

You're never going to get MikeB to admit he's wrong because he's like George W. Bush and Dick Cheney in that regard. No matter how much proof is provided he'll simply ignore it and stand by his claims. At least that has been my experience.

The Wikipedia article is not stating anything incorrect. 1280 x 1080 is also a 1080 p/i HD resolution, the PS3 scalar then upscales this to FullHD, your TV scales this to your native HDTV resolution.

I'm actually quite pleasant to most people. MikeB has an amazing ability to bring out the worst in me. We go around like this about once a month.
Welcome to the board, BTW.

I think it speaks much better for the website to have members that can freely speak their minds.
