Forums - Gaming - Sony: MS "punched themselves out of the fight"

So you don't think that Nintendo having already put out a Mario, Smash Brothers, Zelda, and Metroid game on the Wii is leveraging their big guns. I would suggest it is, now whether or not this will be an issue for them remains to be seen, but he said

"Our competition has already leveraged all their big assets in the first couple of years and MAY have punched themselves out of the fight,"

the operative term being "may", so I really don't see this as any worse than normal PR. Now I admit I did not read the entire article so if I missed the part where they were being douches then I apologize.

At this point, anyone from MS or Sony implying that Nintendo may be fading pretty much seals them up as being a giant douche.

... and mentally retarded.

He talked up the Blu-ray victory and upcoming titles as PS3's key advantages going forward.

These two statements are proof that they're talking about the XB360 only.

The Wii is not even 18 months old yet, so it can't have released all its big assets in the first couple of years.

I just don't understand how people don't get the PR job. This is their job guys, they understate the competition and overstate themselves. You seriously want the guy to say "We're gaining some momentum now and it looks like we may overtake the 360 in a few years, but damn man we have no chance of winning against Nintendo, let us all bow down to our new overlords"?

It's not his job to tell you the truth, it's his job to tell you the truth, spun as best as he can to make his company look awesome. This no more makes him a douche than the Nintendo guy who said that the 360 was a shitty idea for MS's investors, or the MS guy who said that Master Chief showing up on UT3 was because the PS3 has no games.

Super Smash Bros., Zelda, Metroid, and Mario would disagree. It's pretty obvious he was talking about Nintendo, too. What major franchise has Nintendo not released on the Wii? All I'm coming up with is Pokemon.

I agree, XBox was prematurely discontinued and all XBox exclusives were released early to push a maximum amount of XBox fans towards the platform within an as short as possible timespan. The 360 did not receive enough testing and planning, everything looks like a rush job regarding the 360.

I foresee troubled times for the 360, the PS3 indeed proving to be much more powerful, the PS3 proving to have a better longterm games line-up, Blu-Ray indeed pushing HD DVD out of the market. Microsoft's FUD and Hype will probably backfire, fans will feel themselves fooled for spreading the gospel. I know one fanboy (a game reviewer!) who publicly called me names because I stated RRoD problems were widespread and he repeated and furiously defended the Microsoft Gospel that hardware issues are within industry standards and only his and others launch units were flawed (eventually he couldn't handle it for being wrong, asked his account to be deleted, will others feel similarly?).

Proving to be much more powerful? You mean with the multiplatform games with the majority giving the 360 the edge? If the PS3 was really a lot more powerful it would show even if games aren't developed for it first.

The 360 provides more tradional like technology, the later more demanding games are about on par. Early Atari ST to Amiga games were also slightly subpar, later games were far superior.

Judge the PS3 based on current exlcusives like Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction and Gran Turismo Prologue (1080p) but take into account my sig below.

Soon we will have Metal Gear Solid 4 (1080p), people will already know which platform is far more powerful this year, faster than was the case for the Amiga.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

I've done (and still do) PR work myself. I don't think it's my job to act like an asshole and overstate my company's position in the marketplace. Talk up what you do. Leave the competition out of the conversation. Focus on how you're bringing the consumer what they *need* and how your product fulfills that need; don't talk trash on your competition who is handily beating the shit out of you in both marketshare and profit.

Don't even bother reading MikeB's posts.  He'll say stuff he can't back up and likes to pretend he understands the hardware differences between the 360 and PS3.

How did I know you would bring up the Amiga in this conversation?

What's funny is how you act as if Microsoft's position of using familiar technology and providing great developer tools to game creators is somehow a bad thing.

BTW, I still haven't seen your response to Legend's link. You list a bunch of exclusives while Legend provided a link talking about multi-platform games.

And for the last time, GT5p is not true 1080p. I've shown you the link proving otherwise multiple times yet you still reference it as being full high-def.

The things I stated years before the PS3's release are now echoed by most 360/PS3 engine developers.
