How about this theory: Switch can't handle the game

Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter XX.

While it's a spinoff game, Stories didn't do as well in Japan as Capcom would have liked.  I think, even though Worlds would be a Switch title if anything, Capcom doesn't want the big boys stepping on the toes of Stories in the west.  MH isn't a kid friendly franchise, and I think they'd like to push the spin off that welcomes young players as hard as possible to get them into the mainline games.

This is the same logic for XX.  No reason to compete with yourself in your largest market.

I realize Worlds doesn't release until next year, but I'm thinking Capcom doesn't want the west skipping Stories and Japan ignoring XX and just waiting on Worlds.

Yeah, and Platinum is just being strategic with not bringing Bayonetta 2 to PS4 and X1. Just doesn't want them skipping out on their other offerings on the console.

Have you seen the game? I doubt the Switch could handle it without serious compromises to be honest.

the game looks very dated. Amazing for a MH game, still very dated.

Having those monster animations is very hardware consuming. They put alot of effort on it.

Is it doable on the switch? Sure, but there will be alot of compromises to keep the FPS acceptable. They will also have to port the engine. It's running on MT framework, not unreal 4.

I thought Bayonetta 2 was published by Nintendo.

Money is changing hands in both cases. That was my point. Holding out hope to make up out of the box theories falls under the same banner to me.

If Street Fighter V isn't coming to Switch, hard to believe that this would. Both times they got help from Sony.

Are you saying this game got help from Sony and yet it's also coming to PC and Xbox One?

Sony wants the game for its impact in Japan, where the game is exclusive to PS4. That's been the rumor since the game was first mentioned as coming several months ago.

Capcom is deep into the development of this game which probably has taken several years.

With the Switch they probably just got development kits last year, also after the Wii U, Capcom doesn't really trust Nintendo that much hence why their initial offerings are all ports. The company isn't on the best of ground as is after the last few years without a major non Monster Hunter success, diverting assets to a Switch version is something the suits are wary of.

Also real talk, the Switch maybe there safety net if this fails to meet expectations and they want to return to original MH game play on a system where they may not have to spend as much (or get away with claiming they can not) in looks or AI.

Well said.  I didn't even think about the Wii U factor, nor the fact that Capcom isn't in the best of states financially.  We don't know if this Switch train will keep up at this pace - or at least close to it - for the next few years or not.

I know why Monster Hunter World isn't coming to the Switch, or rather I know why Capcom didn't make any big plans for a Monster Hunter Switch title.  Capcom has traditionally made bad and "delayed reaction" decisions when it comes to platform support and game releases.  That's why.
